Tim Leatherman Visit, What Should zoidberg Do
on: October 29, 2018, 09:28:14 AM
In a week and a half, Tim Leatherman will be an hours drive from me.
It's part of the 35th anniversary world heritage tour.

I'll try to get a seat reserved and attend the event.
Let's say this does happen...

 :ahhh

...what should I do?

Do I gift him a modified MT? Or my cleanest MTo shirt? Or my MTo poker chip?
Do I ask him a million questions? If yes then which questions? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
What is protocol? And what do I wear? How many Leathermans do I belt carry?

Help!

 :ahhh

Get him to sign the MT.o shirt you will be wearing, while you're wearing it. Never wash it again. :gimme:

Just walk up to him and be like "sup?" :D

You'll be wearing the MT.o shirt for him to sign.  8)
And go all-out Batman-belt with every LM you have/can get your hands on. :tu:

That's what I would do. Well, that is what I would do if I didn't choke up, meeting the MT legend.  :)

Draw up plans and diagrams with lots of graphics on how, with your help, he can reassert his authority, stamp out dissension and improve the company... When he sees them along with your forceful delivery, he'll be very impressed... and you'll be well in!  :2tu:

If I may suggest a question for your list:
When will LM come with a new generation of larger MTs? I count the Plus models as small improvement, not new gen.
Cheers!

Get your favorites signed.   DO NOT follow him to the restroom, (not cool).

Yes, give him a MTO poker chip, let him know it trumps any other chip that can be played :tu:

well, zoid, I hope you can make it there just fine  :tu:

if it's anything like his visit to the 35 Year Anniversary Event in Barcelona, then:

- you'll make long queues to have your tools signed
- there is a limit to two tools per person to be signed  :P
- you will be able to talk to him during the time he spends signing your tools, 1-2 minutes at most  :ahhh
- I talked to him about he forum, he knows it exists and many people have talked to him about it during the years  :tu:
- you might be able to gift him something but he doesn't carry anything other than his pockets, belt sheath and pen in the shirt pocket, and he'll be moving around all over the place so he doesn't have much space on him to carry stuff. Maybe his wife or some staff member will be able to hold or save something for him but I'm not confident about that  :dunno:
- if you bring a marker/sharpie (like I did) and a catalog, shirt, book, or other stuff he'll probably be more than happy to sign it for you. Seeing that everybody wanted his stuff signed after me, I gave him my marker to keep so he could sign all the other people's things  :D
- in this event they gave a bracelet to all the reerved visitors, with a number to enter the raffle, as well as a catalog with a sticker, and a T-shirt (you choose your size)

here is Tim signing my tools in the event. I talked to him for about 2 minutes

finally, just be yourself. He is very open to all kinds of people and he's a straight shooter, so I'm sure you will get your point(s) across easily and quickly as he's very attentive and enthusiast about fans, questions, comments and opinions, and he's very down to earth and doesn't just sit on his laurels and enjoy what he's built from the top  :hatsoff:

A limit of two tools being signed you say ...
One or two minutes talk at most you say ...

Okay, I did sign up myself and both of my boys for an engraving session, so we had about 6 minutes tops for the entire family in theory, but after engraving my '94 Supertool, my PST, my Charge and both Charges from my boys he also signed a Leatherman Banner I brought with me, and took the time for some pics with me and my boys, and my baby girl, and we had a little chat about how many tools I owned, and which one was my favorite of the current line up (for me this is the Rebar, price/value wise), and he said his favorite was also the Rebar, since he thought of it as a modern PST.

When I handed over my tools for engraving he always opened them up, look at the date codes and the condition of the tools (he did this with every tool they gave him for engraving). He said that I shared first place with one other guy when it came to presenting him the oldest tool (my '94 Supertool) for engraving that weekend.

So in the end it was more like a 10 minutes event or so  :D

Oh, we also got some PST shaped pins, 3 Leatherman Buffs and some Leatherman pens.

My apologies for all the pics, but it was an awesome day, even now, more than two years later, it still puts a smile on my face  :D.

P.S.: The pics from me and my boys and baby girl with Tim were taken by somebody who works for the Belgian Leatherman Distributor and were shown on their facebookpage (so it's not my fault that they are a bit out of focus ...  ::)).
