I'm not sure if this should be here or in the shutter shop, Mods please put it where you like.  There seems to be enought people here that like their axes to warrent a thread to show off your collections.  I'll get the ball rolling with my modest lot.

Now you've seen mine show me yours. :)

Ya got the right direction for a collection. I tell ya the wood handle is the only way to go! I really like them but what is the 4th from the left? It looks like a firemans tool or an older sailors axx.

Your both right:
GB Small Forset Axe.  Great tool that my wife got me for my 30th Birthday.

The Firemans axe I have because it came with a belt and pouch.  I was putting together a retirment gift for my Dad (a Fireman).  At the same time I had picked up a better fire axe and so he got the good axe and the belt rig.  I kept the not so good one.

The two little all steel throwing axes were made for me by this chap;

Mostly because I couldn't afford his knives. ::)  He is a friend of a friend and a very nice guy.

They throw very well.  It's just a shame I'm so bad at it. :-[

I think of these as Francisca axes.  Being all steel is a modern interpretation but it makes a much easier job for the blacksmith and I'll never have to worry about putting a new halve on them.

I was eyeballing this French Army axe the other day - Deutsche Optik - don't have a need for it, but the looks appeal to me.

In the next links you can see several pictures about the very first "axe" that uses leverage.
It is one sided. This way the friction is almost fully eliminated.
It has also proven to be 100% safe to it's user.

That's impressive.

I've used an axe with springloaded wedges on each side that acted in a similar fashion, but the springs needed maintenance and replacement.

This looks like a simple, effective axe/splitting maul/wedge.  Very cool!

Very nice David.  I've a soft spot for smaller axes myself and have a Wetterlings mini axe these days.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with that Vaughan. :tu:

Gareth that Wetterling mini axe is nice looking. Looks like the edge has a nice profile to it. This Vaughan came duller than a butter knife. So it was out to the shop for some file work. Its Sharp now but still need to thin it down behind the edge some as it is still a little thick.

Just got this Council Tool Hunters Axe. First impressions is it has a much better edge profile so wont take much filing to get it into shape.

Council Tool has been around since 1886 and is still family owned. I`ve only known of them for a couple years. This is my first axe from them. I have not used it much yet but I have not had to reprofile the edge at this point just touched it up with a stone and it has handled limbing easily. I`m planning on ordering one of their Jersey Classic axes before long and see how it works out.

Here is a couple axe heads I got last week. Top one is a True Temper Flint Edge Kelly Works and is 10 13/16" bit to bit. The bottom one is a Sager Chemical Axe and is 13 9/16" bit to bit. The Sager is heavily pitted and has seen better days so it will sit in the collection. The True Temper might get rehandled but proably not.
