Mystery object
on: November 21, 2022, 02:41:08 AM
So I'm trying to tidy up an old computer before putting it away for likely long term archeological storage. And for the most part I remember what various projects, parts and design files are for.

But - I have no idea what this was for  It looks like some EDC thing with a 16mm round grip thing, some 3/8" and 1/4" grips, and a rather serious tweezer function. So... what did I make this for??  :ahhh What is it about 16mm round stuff?  Anyone?

Maybe it comes to me all of sudden tomorrow or something. In the meantime - help?  ::)

No idea if it would work, but it looks like it might turn the kind of bolts you get on some Leatherman tools, like the Rebar?

Nice design Vidar  :tu:

The Leatherman knurled screws have more teeth than this. Gerber has screws with less.

Maybe it's for some fishing gear?

Maybe - I sure don't know!

Well, I have had a day to try and figure out what this was for but I'm still at a total loss. The round grip and the tweezers seems to be the main features, while the hex grips seems more like emergency functional bonus features just because they were easy to add.

Since I can't even remember having made it I guess it might just have been some tool to possibly help assemple some other stuff that never actually came to be. Or something of that nature. Anyway, it looked kind of EDC ish so I thought it was worth a shot if anyone knew any use for it.

Younger me was clearly a very non-documenting and file disorderly person...  ::) Maybe I can get a claim for the "Vidar file disorder syndrome"?

At least I know for certain it isn't a multitool by simply applying the ultimate proof: There is no bottle opener.  :D

Yay! Mystery solved! Just some random thing in the spur of some moment then. Kind of worrisome that enki_ck remember it better than me, but I'll take it! Thanks!

Reminds me of some DIY vape tools I've seen before - Basically tweezers at the ends (standard for messing with stuff, or ceramic tipped versions for manipulating hot coils), with a circular cutout for wrenching off tightly screwed tanks.
Most are made of plastic to avoid causing damage, though some just have plastic facing on the cutout, allowing the metal body to hold screwdriver bits for the screws/allen bolts on the build deck.

Summat like this:

Well, that was something pretty close functionally! :o

Makes one wonder if anything similar would fit into a SAK layer for those with such needs.

For myself a tiny version to handle the hot parts when doing changes to the TIG welding gun might be interesting. (Currently use Knipex wrench pliers). Hm. Would be easy to make too. I might have to give that a try just for the smurf of it.
