Lanyard Ring Hole
on: December 04, 2008, 09:59:05 AM
Can a modder (or someone who just likes breaking saks) show/tell me how the lanyard ring mount hole thing works, and is it integral to rebuilding main-knife layers(is there a non-lanyard spacer for other dual layers?)

Another Q: How far back do I have to look to get brass(or bronze? I can never tell the difference) liners instead of aluminium?

did they ever have brass on Cellidor, or only Alox models?

You do need a spacer at the small blade end.  What it does is allow the main blade to sit along side the small blade.  I.e. it moves the small blade over slightly so as to make room for the tip of the main blade.   The blade layer always needs the spacer even if it doesn't have a ring attached.  Some models, my Huntsman springs to mind, have the ring mounted on the end of the back spring on the opener layer.

I can't think of any other duel layers that need a spacer mainly because all the other duel layer tools are shorter and don't cross over.  Think of the mag/phillips layer; it doesn't need a spacer because both tools are short enough that they don't meet in the middle, so no gap is required to one side to make room.  The other common duel layer being the cap lifter and can opener; although these tools meet in the middle they both have a angle ground into the end that means they nest together rather than one of the tools having to be "moved" aside to create space.

I hope this is clear but I can't take any pics today to help. :)

Someone else will have to answer the history stuff.

Can't say when brass liners were stopped (mid to late 80's at a guess  ???) but I have a Wenger Handwerker that has brass and aluminium liners with cellidor scales.

Prior to the aluminium liners you've got nickel silver ones and they go way back.

The brief timeline I have marks the change from nickel silver to alox in 1951.  See here:

There were brass liners in the Pioneer series somewhere in the 70's and 80's.  Your guess is as good as mine as to when.  I have examples of Farmers and an Electrician with brass liners.

Here's a pic comparing brass to nickel silver:

STOP DERAILING MY TOPIC!

Does anyone have/can take a picture of all the SAK main blades lined up from Classic to 111mm?

(I am, of course, referring to the True, Vic SAKs, none of your dirty Wengers.

Though maybe a Wenger SI, so I can see this Belly everyone always yammers about.

Yammerers)

Sorry!  :ahhh

It seems to me that SporK had some really good blade lineup pics that he showed over at SOSAK at one time.  Are you around SporK?

I can possibly put a pic together for you, but I won't have any Wengers to include.
