When I was in my teens, back in the early 90's, the X-Men were my escape from reality...

I used to put some music on, open a bag of chips and dive into my X-Men comics... Sometimes for hours.

I used to collect them, usually bought older ones from local Book Store, they sold old comics too, I remember
some of the Finnish '86 issues were quite expensive at the time  :)

We were on the way to the doc when the little guy texted mom to tell her, @ first I thought the kid said it was someone in his class and was trying to get straight A’s to pass his classes, :-\
I then laughed and saying this isn’t college! But then I almost got :twak: by mom and said Stan Lee! Both of us were like err, comics are going to go down hill
Rip Stan, you will soooooo be missed!

I had hoped it was another hoax, but at 95 it doesn't come as much of a surprise.  He had an amazing life, and I am glad he was here as long as he was.

RIP Stan.  The world is a darker place today, and it is up to us True Believers to carry on for you.

Excelsior.

Yeah...not my best moment when I found out about the bad news today.

Student today at work..."Stan Lee passed away today".
Me confused..."Stanley died today"?
Student..."Yes, it is a very sad day".
Me still confused..."Stanley, the tool manufacturer"?
Student looking at me like I am growing horns..."WHAT"?
Me..."You know...the tool company"?
Student..."Oh...no...the Comic book guy"?
Me..."Ah...that Stan Lee...that is indeed sad news for the comic book world".

When we got the news at work it was like someone deflated the room.

Lot of people got some really major life lessons from his writing. Boiled down to just a fortune cookie's worth, but it always stuck with you. And he made it ok to be the weird one. He rarely worked alone, he was the front man, but he really did make it ok to be weird, to be the outsiders, the nerds and the geeks and the outliers. He probably contributed as much to modern, popular culture as Elvis or Andy Warhol, and I think the modern mythology he laid much of the groundwork for will be with us for generations, maybe even centuries.

There is death. And then there is being forgotten. The world might be a little quieter today, but he won't be forgotten.
