on: March 23, 2024, 02:06:13 PM
Hello leatherman friends  :hatsoff:

I need a leatherman for my EDC because i only have big multitool like surge or sog Pwr access assist and i try to minimize my stuff ...

I know Arc is here and it's a wonderfull tool  :multi: but Here in France it's 300 euros / 325,88 usd ...  :(

so my choice is more for the rebar / wave or the Charge wich one is more suited for EDC ? what's your favorite between this 3 ?

Gentleman's i can't wait for your anwsers  :woohoo:

For value for money, the Rebar is great. It’s tough, reliable, and has a good selection of screwdrivers with nothing else to buy or carry.

If you need to be able to open a blade quickly with one hand, the Wave+ would be better.

If  you can find a Free P2, you might like that. Quite light, easy to open one handed, good range of tools, and much cheaper than the Arc.

Will you be using the MT as your primary knife?

Are only Leatherman tools part of the discussion?

Do you carry and use bits regularly?

Pocket or sheath carry?

Any laws that should be considered?

From your answers to Harley’s questions, I think a Rebar is definitely a good solution for you.

No point having a bit driver and having to mess about buying and carrying extra bits if you only need standard drivers.

I wouldn’t worry about the mini driver. Consider a Micra to pair with the Rebar - it’ll give you a glasses screwdriver and much better scissors than the Wave. You could probably get a good condition used one cheaply.

Since your multitool will be your primary blade, you'll get better blade steel (154CM or S30V) and one-hand opening with a Charge.  The Charge was my EDC for a long time too, so that's definitely my pick.

Should i paid extra money for titanium or it's not worth at all ?

I tried a lot, but returned to PST. try to find a later version, throw away the largest flat screwdriver, put Wave scissors in its place, sand the surfaces of the tools and line them with m5x8x0.1 washers and the ideal EDC tool is in your hands.

Personally, I prefer the non-titanium model for 2 reasons - it's slightly thinner, and I prefer 154CM blade steel.  I think 154CM is a great compromise between edge retention and ease to sharpen.

If you want best bang for money go for Rebar, if you want OHO go for Charge+ (mostly cause of blade steel and if its gonna be your only one) but If you manage find second hand cheap TTi+ take it otherwise go with Charge+. Or if you dont wanna spend money for Charge go for Wave

I would go with the Rebar because its the easiest to pocket carry.  You do have to spend an extra 4 seconds to deploy the main blade, but the Rebar is very high on the utility/size ratio.

The Curl is also an excellent choice.  Basically its a Wave+ without the saw, serrated edge and eyeglasses driver, and you gain an awl.  Saves you $30, and its thinner in the pocket.  It has a high degree of aesthetic appeal IMO too.

I think the Rebar is awesome and my recommendation. No scissors, but I don't like the scissors LM makes except for on the Surge. Best bang for your Euro with a Rebar in my opinion.
