To Crunch or not To Crunch, that is the question?
on: November 16, 2018, 08:56:43 PM
So I can't even beleive I am asking this bunch of enablers the question but somehow I have held off buying a Crunch this long and the thought of jumping in is starting to eat away at me again?

I hardly need one,or do I?

Most of the commentary about the Crunch goes back a long way and so I thought I would put it to the collective to give me possible fresh insight(B.S. Co-signing) about the Crunch either way.

Yes I have many MT and yes I carry one EDC and ENC too!

I can't imagine how I escaped till now without one and was scared they were gone but now seem to be back again so it seems like an obvious yes to me but what do I know, you know?

Thanks in Advance!

I'd say, even apart from it being a foldable multitool, as a small vice grip it is very well made and does its job admirably, much better than clunkier and cheaper representatives of its kind. Add to this that the facts I excepted earlier make it portable and versatile, and you can simply sum it up as a minor engineering miracle. Just my 2 cents. Even if I don't generally EDC one, it has a cuddly warm place in my tool set. It makes a perfect assistant for modding other tools :D
Cheers!

It's a great pocket vice, ideal for bicycle maintenance on the go too. And I love the integrated bit-driver under the adjustment screw  :tu:

...oh, I accidently created a rime

When you need locking pliers nothing else will do (and it is surprising how often locking pliers can make many gripping tasks easier).

For such a compact MT the pliers are surprisingly robust, even if the rest of the toolset is a bit limited (axcept for the hidden 1/4" hex bit driver).

The LM Crunch is my favourite full sized MT, and I carry one in both my vehicles and also in my dog agility trial bag (so that's 3) so I have one close & handy most of the time.

I dun use the crunch very often, only when I need to grip something tiny and needs more precision. The machined teeth are very precise and pivot have so little tolerance that their cutters can snip soft cables. Most vice grips I have come across are pretty loose on the jaw's pivot so they will twist under heavy pressure. For general/hard use, a Sellery or Irwin will work just fine.

I think the crunch is a very under-rated tool.

Yes its 'different' to the regular plier multi-tools that we're used too, but there is no other leatherman that can do the job of the crunch in certain situations. Not many other leathermans can say the same.

For that reason alone, aswell as it being such an amazing design, its well worth it in my opinion.

I don't carry one on my person every day, but I have one in each of my bags.  And I pretty much have one of those bags near me most of the day.  I carry a Wave at work and Skeletool after work just because of versatility and quickness, but the Crunch is definitely a "must have" for those occasions when you need locking pliers.

Well of course I got one
Some surprise huh?

Pretty amazing but also crazy tight, the pliers head needs to loosen up some but I bet it will too?

Thanks for the enabling support!

Its really a neat tool and not just that, its a really good tool.  Glad you picked one up.  Locking pliers is just something that makes sense when you need them.
