The Magnificent Magnifier Thread
on: November 19, 2018, 10:41:28 AM
Sorry if this has been done before, but I didn't see anything dedicated to magnifying glasses in a search. :ahhh

I love magnifying glass. And the "magnifying glass"(frame/handle) around them. I'm not actively collecting magnifying glasses, but I buy one if I like the handle, size, clarity, and magnification level.

Here are some photos of the little magnifier assortment. Large, small, stationery, loupes, etc.

What kind of magnifiers do you use?

Pics 1-4

Edit: I did not include Microscopes in this thread. Those deserve a separate thread. :)

Nope. Didn't forget the SAK Mags. :)

I really need a new phone. The camera sucks so bad on mine. The laser through the SAK mags looked awesome. It looks pink in the photo.

I've got a few, but this is by far my favourite. I bought it when I was about twelve or something along with a little pocket knife - now long gone, in a little village in Highland Perthshire, Scotland during a holiday. It's quite a pleasant memory.

Nice loupe, Fuzz! :like:
Thank you for the history on the loupe as well.
I constantly need a loupe at work and usually buy a pack of six 10x loupes at once. They aren't as well made as yours in the photo, but they do the trick. :)

Yo gerleatherberman, I've got a few mags but mostly just use my cheater glasses. But.... I got one that you don't have! I've had this one since the mid 60s, made by Tasco. I've studied insects and started fires with it.  :pok:  :tu:

very nice glasses here, some odd examples
here below you have, a few of my samples

this LIDL one has pincers and I use it for rocks, precision machines and some tinkering at home

this one is cheap and plastic but due to its low weight and strength it has the EDC Loupe throne

for quick access and most normal uses I reach for the Victorinox, here exploring the unknown

here it's the day I achieved lighting some leaves and starting a fire, I was really surprised

most times it's the Explorer or the Swisschamp, both with old style loupe or modernised

to end this I say, the previous three sentences and these three last rhyme, have you realised? :D
My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

Awesome photos, TP! Love the Mantis one. :like:

The Powerfix looks like a good mag! Clear and uniform magnification is always a great thing. :)

The pocket loupe mag does make a good EDC mag for sure. Do you keep it in a pouch or let it freeball in your pocket?

Hi G-Man

the Mantis seemed really attracted by it so i got the chance to take several shots before it jumped away  :dunno:

the big plastic one is carried inside the sheath/pouch pocket, if it has one, or on a small very thin leather case, in both cases to avoid scratches (even though it already has a few)
I forgot to show the thread lopues (for sewing and threading) but I have few pics of those, if any  ??? :P

Used the new phone camera to retake that awful shot that made my laser look pink. I know I could have emailed the original and adjusted the hue, but I'm lazy.

Hope this one looks better.

Very cool, CeHo! That low profile pocket loupe is very old-school. :tu:

Is that a magnified specimen case?
