Budget upgrade for my 4 D-cell halogen maglite
on: November 21, 2018, 08:18:01 PM
I want to upgrade my halogen maglite, which runs on 4 D cells. I'm looking for something that will really throw light an enormous distance, and cost under fiddy bucks. What are my options?

Also, similar question for a 2 D-cell LED maglite. My little atomic beam tiny thing running off a single 18560 battery will outperform the LED maglite all day, every day.

What are my options?

Charles.

Coast makes some great flashlights that are reasonably priced.

Convoy C8 looks good.
Runs on 1 18650, 1000 lumens and beam for 200m. $20 or $30.
I was thinking of getting one myself.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

If you do a Amazon search you can come up with some really powerful options, but not from established companies is my impression.

Or you can try Nite Ize

No no, you misunderstand. I want to put a new LED emitter/reflector in my maglite. Something like the Terralux TLE-310M or Fusion 36 upgrade kits, but preferably something with a single high power CREE led and an optic.

I upgraded both my 3D Mags several years ago but no idea what the brand of upgrade was and it was different for both :salute: they both have lasted and are both way better in battery life and brightness as well :like: so any drop 8n upgrade you go with should be a vast improvement over the incandescent  :tu:

I realize now I should have taken the head of the lights off for better pics ::) but maybe you can tell a little bit about the upgrades with these pics :salute: They each have different led upgrades but each one helped these lights tremedously  Not only making them brighter but also making the battery life way better :like:

I also "upgraded" my Maglite 2C cell light.  I bought an off the shelf led drop in.  It certainly boosted the lumen but its still only ok IMO.   I have a Maglite XL50 thats pretty darn nice.  It has some serious throw.  It runs off 3 AAA cells and still kinda has that Maglite looks.

Heres my thought, if you want to spend 50 would you consider looking at the XL series from Maglite?  Then with whatever you have left you might be able to find a drop in for your other light?  If not then when I was looking Malkoff seemed to get a lot of attention.

Have a look at this
