Serrations
on: November 22, 2018, 07:23:28 PM
I have pretty much decided to serrate one of the blades on my last mod, one blade is SS and the other is CS,  between the two what would be the best blade for serrations or does it not matter ?  i presume one of the two will hold its edge better  :dunno:

The stainless steel might hold the edge longer :salute: just because carbon steel is a bit softer (usually) this requiring you to sharpen the carbon more to keep its edge

But someone that knows better may come in and correct me in the matter :D

Just going on looks I would serrate the Vic blade and leave the Opi as it is.

I'd take a nap, sleep on it, then decide to NOT serrate a blade.

(Did I mention I don't like serrations?)

:iagree:

Making is one thing, modding is another.  If a blade is soft enough that you can add serrations without stuffing up the heat treat, it's a waste of time anyway. JMO

Thanks guys for the input, i like the CRKT type serrations and thought they would be good for one of the blades, i will hold off for now and leave them alone  :tu:

I don't like combo edged blades, but I do like having a separate serrated blade at times. One of my mods has both blades, and I really like the Original Outdoorsman with the serrated and pruner blades.

As to which to serrate, it would depend on what each knife will be used for, rather than looks in my opinion. Either should be doable with diamond files

Thats the ones TP  :tu: maybe they would be a bit aggressive for such a narrow blade, nice on that knife though

I do like serrations and as i have two blades it sort of made sense to make one fully serrated, ok maybe not as big as the Veffs but more like the Weekender/Spartan type, the third blade on it is a Vic pen blade, that could be an option  :tu:
