I was to preoccupied with the plier test that I overlooked that beautiful chest while looking at this thread on my phone  Is this the one yopu are going to use to store MTs now or is it a piece that you have been working on at work  either way it is awesome :dd: :like:

Many thanks, Poncho!

It is for the MT collection at home. :woohoo:
If it was a work project, I couldn't have spent so much time on the special color of finish. I could have slathered a dark mahogany stain and finish to make it look presentable. But, without work-profit an issue, the mahogany now has an English walnut color which turned out well. :)
At work, I'd be considered $200+ into the piece(labor and materials). :ahhh

Thank you very much, Poncho!

I want to bring it in the house and start loading it with MTs, but it'll smell like Minwax if I don't coat it.

Day 4:
M16 hadn't failed yet. File works fine on wood, even though it is tiny.

Couple more beauty pics.

What about the M16's file's quality as compared to the PAD's non-file's  >:D ?
Awesome challenge BTW, takes some guts I gather :D

Thank you,  D_T!

It is a bit more aggressive than the double-cut side of the PAD file on wood. Haven't tried any metal with the Walt file.
The only issue is that the files on our PADs were of different cut-quality(SOG's wonderfully consistent QC  ::) ). Mine being better than the file on yours. I was able to somewhat easily file some mildly hardened steel with both sides of my PAD file, even though it didn't feel aggressive on my fingertips. The chrome plated double-cut file on the DeWalt may or may not be able to file hard metals. I'll be trying that today or tomorrow. :ahhh

Didn't try the file yet, but tried out the bottle opener flat driver. Stripping parts from lamps that won't sell. :)

Oh. Yes. Boss let me spray the chest today in the spray room before work. I brought it home and it turned out great. Sorry for the bad lighting. I don't want to handle it too much before the enamel clear coat cures.

But, this is the final appearance. Just need to get some green felt to line the drawers.  :)

Thank you,  Vidar!

On a side note; I was looking at rolls of felt and realized there are many different colors. Narrowed it down to green, light orange, or black.  :ahhh :)

Nice... was that originally for storing plans in?
Thank you, Syncop8r!
It could be used for that if the plans were folded, but the 7 & 3/4" depth and 22" width of the drawers seems to be for a watchmaker tool chest, as the drawers were filles with C & E branded cardboard dividers.

Thank you, Sam

Alright Poncho. I must admit. I intentionally decided when I wrote that post to go with whatever the first recommendation was. Light orange felt it is. Thank you.

Day 5:
Cleaned up an old advertisement piece and bent the busted enamel edges back in to keep them from cutting a customer's hand. The steel is the lower end of mild hardness.
The file was able to clean up the burrs and uneven edges to make them smooth. Small file took some effort, but it did the job and the file teeth are unmanaged. Tomorrow I'll try it on some harder steel to see how it does.

And carry photo for the day.

Glad that Walt is earning his keep :like:

and that light orange will look so good with either SS or BO  Green is traditional but I figured you wanted something a bit more edgy :D and black would have washed any BO models out to live in the background ;) so that is why I though the light Orange would be best :like:

 and thank you.

I found some orange felt on amazon fairly reasonably priced. Will order a small bolt to cut up. I have a craft guillotine somewhere to cut it with.

For now, I crudely cut some ugly old towel up to figure out the maximum number of tools I can fit in it. :)
