Mods. Selling some of my children to pay the bills.
on: December 01, 2018, 12:46:11 AM
Christmas is looming, $261 speeding ticket as an early present from the DOT, trying to save money for my trip, etc etc.
Most of my mods sit in a cabinet looking pretty but not much else. I've been more interested in vintage SAKs for shelf queen duty lately, think of it as giving them a dignified retirement.
As a result I've decided to release some of my pieces intro the wild. Most of these are mods on used knives so don't be expecting NIB quality. Having said that I don't waste dozens of hours of my time working on junkers. Most of these will have been carried pre and post mod so there may be a few marks of pocket wear. But if you're like me, you believe knives are tools not jewellery. Enough words, on with the pictures.
I'll be adding more items to this thread over time so keep checking back.

First offerings are two custom scaled 74mm Executives and a 65mm custom alox Micro Toolchest.

74mm Executive with Buffalo horn scales and hand made brass liners, bolsters and bail. US$100 incl postage worldwide.

74mm Executive with "Realstone" Turquoise scales and 7075 aluminium bolsters.  Polishes up to look very much like silver. US$100 incl postage worldwide.

Alox Wenger Micro Toolchest. Built from micro Toolchest and 65mm money clip. US$50 incl postage worldwide.

I don't sit on the forums 24/7 but I'll try to answer any questions or PMs as quickly as I can.

Postage discount for multiple purchases or within Australia.  Sorry "rest of the world" I'll still do multi discount, but overseas postage from here is just mental.

The Horn and Brass knife has been allowed to develop a natural patina to appear as a vintage piece, it can be polished if preferred.

Also of interest...

108mm GAK-X Camo custom.
A pair of 91mm scissors have been added to this Victorinox 108mm GAK using a backspring from a second, donor GAK.
Due to the internal shape of the GAK backspring, the scissors need to be closed with the blades together or the end of the handle hits the internal contour of the spring and holds then partly open, However, past this bump they close with good snap and sit at a nice height.
The scales are custom made from woodland camo pattern acrylic resin and are finished with a glossy polished surface. If this knife was to be used as a working knife (and there isn't much out there tougher than a 108mm GAK) the scales could be rubbed over with a mild abrasive such as steel wool, scothcbrite or a medium/fine sandpaper to give a grippy, matt surface while still displaying the camo pattern which is cast into the material, not painted on the surface.

Note also that the camo pattern is "bookmatched" with the two sides mirroring each other.

Okay, it hurts to part with this one.

Custom built "Round Awl" aka "Long Awl" Alox Electrician.

Can't afford a c1957 original Pioneer with the old style awl? The last one I saw was asking over US$250  :o

Well, here's a chance to own (possibly) the next best thing.
This knife was built on a brand new Electrician and has a genuine vintage round awl from a parted out old soldier grafted in.
I am lucky enough to own an original Pioneer which was used as reference in shaping the cutout in the back scale to fit the vintage awl.
It has occasionally featured in my EDC rotation since I built it so does show some signs of use but walk, talk and snap are all of very high quality.

I really like this knife but it was built as a "special user" and since changing jobs I just don't find it in my pocket often enough. Lately my EDC has been a 1950's tourist.
It would be good to see this one go to someone who is going to keep it warm in their pocket but if you stump up the money it's yours to do with as you wish.

Wow, I though the last one was hard to let go...

58mm Monster.  (almost) EVERY 58mm series tool available in one knife.
The only parts missing that I am aware of are the Torx screwdriver (very rare) and a couple of scale tools (whistle and light) but there are only so many scales you can fit on one knife and I think I've done a pretty good job of fitting three.  :D

Where to start... Some of the tools are "duplicated" but are different versions, e.g. there are both screwed and riveted scissors, both tip type nail files and flat blade combo tools with and without the wire stripper notch. The one "variation I have chosen to ignore is all the differing sizes of USB memory, it'd be a foot thick if I included all of them, the 4GB can represent this tool.

1. Emergency blade
2. Combo Tool, Flat blade
3. Combo Tool, Philips/Wire Stripper
4. Pen Blade
5. Cuticle Pusher aka "Coke Spoon"
6. Cut & Pick blade aka Orange Peeler
7. Key Ring
8. Ruler, SD tip
9. Scissors, riveted
10. Scissors, screwed
11. Divot tool
12. Combo Tool, Flat blade/Wire Stripper
13. USB memory stick 4GB
14. Nail File. classic tip
15. Nail File, SD tip
16. Tweezers
17. Retractable Pen
18. Tooth Pick

It took months just to track down all the parts for this build and many hour experimenting with the layer order to get all tools functioning properly and the nail nicks all accessible.

Since the photo's were taken I have found a Ruby scale for the back rather than he plain red Celidor which was on it.

Not cheap, but the cost in donor knives exceeds the asking price let alone the time invested.
Your chance to own what is a virtually unique piece inspired by the Wenger Giant.

Custom built Wenger Picnic-plus-plus.

Built from a Wenger Picnic single layer knife with Scissors and saw layers added. There are no backtools, giving a smooth spine to this knife.

All tools in very nice condition with good fit and function. Snap is typical for a Wenger knife in that it feels slightly soft compared to a typical Victorinox but is normal for this brand.

US$35 incl worldwide postage. Discount per OP.
