Just wondering Barry, what's the appeal of 3 blades on a stockman for you? Any special tasks you find the combination suited to?

Today's my toothpick again. I got lazy after work turned into an unexpectedly long day, so y'all just get my keyboard for a background today, haha. But with my custom keys added for flair!

I really only use the spey blade.   I've never understood why the originator of this design did that.  Maybe someone here does?

Dont know the official answer but here's my take on it:

Clip - general around use
Sheepfoot - heavy duty use
Spey - castration
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

That's the general impression I get as well. Whittling with the sheepsfoot blade too. I'm just not sure I see a need for three blades for those of us who spend most of our lives in suburbia. BUT that's just one man's opinion
I love trappers and don't use the spey blade for it's intended purpose, so I'm lumped into the same boat!

I'm a Trapper guy myself, but I use the spey blade almost exclusively.  For me,  it's easier to open and I am just drawn to it.

It's my understanding that the 'spey' blade was included on the Trapper because, for the same reasons it's good at speying, it's great for skinning. It's less likely to poke a hole in a hide or animal because the 'point' is relatively obtuse, but retains plenty of belly.

The long straight edge is useful for any number of tasks, and the curved tip of the spey blade often proves useful for delicate cutting tasks...especially where an acute point might be tricky. I tend to use the spey blade for more mundane tasks, e.g. opening a package or peeling an apple, and 'save' the edge on the clip blade for when a sharp point is needed to get into a tight spot, e.g. under a string.

I too am a fan of the Spey blade.  :tu:

 Nix!  I knew you had great taste!  I'd love to put a Trapper to its intended purpose, but trap lines are as rate as the written letter in these parts.

Thanks! It's a shared space with my regular workbench, and the garage computer. It gets tight, but I make it work!
