Dual Survival - Mosquito Coast Episode s7e2 - soil testing kit for starting fire

According to a friend of mine, this episode has someone using a soil testing kit, or chemicals from it to start a fire.  Did it work, and EXACTLY what did they use?

Probably potassium. It becomes dangerously exothermic when you add water.
