Looking for a SAK
on: June 08, 2015, 04:53:33 AM
greetings knights, i am looking for a SAK that is full sized but i also want one that is the thinnest for the amount of tools it has. i know the Bantom is pretty basic. can u guys list some saks that are as thin as or close to that as the bantom?

thanks :climber:

A Bantam Alox is the thinnest you'll get. An Alox Cadet will be about the same thickness as a cellidor Bantam.

For my money, the Compact is the best, thinnest SAK available today. A little thicker than a Bantam or Cadet, but worth the extra thickness.

Add a pin, corkscrew and mini driver to a Bantam and you have a Waiter.

I would say the Cadet, Waiter and Compact are the leaders in tool by size ratio.

Not exactly full-sized but the alox lumberjack is very thin as well.

Thinnest knife for the number of tools must be the Cybertool 41.  41 functions, 33mm wide = 1.24 tools/mm.  Higher than a Bantam (5 functions, 6mm = 0.8 tools/mm). ;)

I usually have carried small one layer 84mm similar to a bantam  The cadet alox is actually thinner than a one layer Cellidor.  I recently got my first three layer 93mm Alox (Pioneer Harvester).  I don't have a lot of use for the saw blade, but I really like how this knife feels in the hand and is not too large to carry.

Will trade items for new/used Cadet Alox knives for mod projects.

I would go with the Compact as well.  It has the most variety of useful implements for the thinner size.  I can't think of any other 2 layer SAK that has more to offer, depending on your preferences of course :salute:

Yes. Super tinker is three layers, Compact is two. I believe they use the same scales

The Compact has plus scales - the pen side is a hair thicker than standard scale at the fat end - but as you say with the extra layer the Super Tinker is a couple of mm thicker overall.
