Custom Leatherman Blades
on: December 09, 2018, 02:52:42 AM
So, I was considering picking up a 154CM skeletool blade, but Loki’s recent price increase got me thinking. If I’m gonna pay $30 for a blade, does anyone make replacement Leatherman Blades to order?  I looked for that Texas Tool Crafters place, but they seem to have gone by the wayside.

So, is there anyone out there who can duplicate a plain edge skeletool blade in LC200N, Vanex, or M390?

Well I am just going to say if someone really does something like that, it's probably going to cost u much more. Small scale production or hobbyist doing this after factoring the time and cost, it's just not feasible or cost efficient.  :salute: buy a CX, sell your skeletool. It will be so much cheaper this way.

I know it won’t be cheap. It’s more of a curiosity thing at this point. If I can get one for $50-$75, that’s reasonable. I’ve had some customs quoted for $150 - &175. That was a larger blade, handles, and much more raw material. $50 - $75 seems about in line.

If I find out I’m dreaming and it’ll cost me $100+, I always have a $27 154CM option to fall back on.

REK can do it, but they START at $425.  much more than this project is worth to me.  He seemed like a great guy to deal with though - very quick replies.

I was surprised. I was thinking maybe $100 - $125 on the high end. But, that’s simupply and demand. This far, he’s the only be who can make it.

I may have a lead. Is anyone else interested in an M390 Skeletool blade if I can make it happen?  I prefer to keep in the the US, but if anyone overseas wants in, I’ll ship it to you assuming I get payment up front.

He quoted me $50 in materials and heat treat for 1. He’s working up a price on labor for me and will likely get back in a couple days. I would have to assume the $50 in mats/heat treat would drop per item if we can get a few together

If I am not mistaken, heat treat cost is fixed by batches, to a maximum lb limit, so the cost is probably about the same for 1 or 100 blades. I always think, if I won a lottery, I would go to Seki, Japan to order one thousand Charge blades in the Damascus pattern (as on SOG Arcitech knives), and do a year long giveaway here  >:D

I'd be interested in a Charge blade with a FFG grind...

His inflection point with Perer’s Is 20 blades, so I doubt we’ll get any price breaks - maybe $5-$10.

I also doubt he’ll want to do a charge blade since he’ll be working these up front scratch.
