Just for bat conservation.  Bats can be rare around here so they are being protected.

I found it interesting as well.    I asked Mike to climb the tree next to it to see what it was like from above but for some reason he wasn't keen.

I like the little pippiwotsit jobs, they're very cute (for bats).  Last time i went camping we were surrounded by bats each evening.

Seriously NKB you have to be careful, bat are the carriers of Rabies in Europe. Rabies have no cure when the virus sets in

Bats are a protected species over here at the moment. A friend of mine bought a house recently, and the surveyor mentioned finding bat droppings somewhere. Apparently you can't get rid of them, you have to build a "bat box" and wait for them to move in there instead. They have more rights than us 

We did a bit of researching about it, and it's true they can carry rabies, but only something like 0.01% of UK bats carry it, and it's mostly not contageous apparently. We're pretty lucky in this country for that sort of thing.

It was more a case of the branches snaoing when I put any weight on them

That bat tower looks like a WWII mini fortress, they were built mostly to control the mosquito population and prevent disease spread.

I can sort of see your face, with the bat ducking, diving and jabbing, whilst muttering, "c'mon, you think your hard do ya?", whilst all of it's bat mates were sititng on the city Wall shouting, "Fight, Fight, Fight"......
