I will say that when it does load, everything is still lightning fast for me. Just sometimes it won't load at all.

Micah found another piece of the server still in the box this morning. He bolted it on and things seem like they may accidentally work now.

Hopefully.

For the most part the issues we have been experiencing are pretty well to be expected as we dial in the server settings to handle us properly.

Please keep letting us know what problems you are experiencing, if any, as it all helps us get one step closer to getting things sorted out.

Just wanted to let you know I have not gotten the "server not responding" message for the last day or so.

Every once in awhile it will load slow, but it hasn't hung up like that again. And most of the time, it's still really fast

Just to keep this thread updated, it appears that our current server package may not be suitable for Multitool.org's needs.

On the up side, most of what we are getting is suitable, but as this forum keeps growing, we are maxing out certain parts of it, and so we have decided that, while everything is in disarray already, we are going to upgrade the server package now, before we hit the wall.

At some point in the next week or so we will be adding more resources, but fortunately there isn't another server move or anything that requires a huge amount of effort. It should be relatively painless, and the only change everyone here may see is things going even faster and smoother.

Even so, if you notice anything out of the ordinary, please let us know. After all, I have been making a decent living the last decade or so off the word should. Comments like "This should hold, that should be enough straps, this should fit" etc have helped (indirectly) to make MTO what it is today, and so I am not one to have a lot of faith that there won't be problems!

Still, I think this major change went as smoothly as I have ever seen a move like this done, and it is all thanks to the efforts of Micah. He may seem like the quiet sort, but the fact is we would be in very serious trouble long ago if it weren't for him.

Photo size change??? Mine is saying 512KB maximum...was over 1000KB. Has something changed???

Yes and no... many things have changed to the default setting during the move and that is one of them.

Unfortunately attachments are also an issue that we will have to address soon. Unlike many forums that prune posts and attachments after a certain period, we try to keep them accessible to everyone. After 13 years, you can imagine how big the attachment database has become somewhat large and remarkably expensive.

We are discussing options on how to deal with this, but for now at least we are leaving the image size where it is. There are instructions on How to reduce photos right here on the forum that should hopefully help until we come across a more permanent solution.

Of course, if anyone has any ideas or thoughts they want to share, please feel free.

People really should make an effort not to load overly large pictures anyway as all they do is make for having to scroll to see the larger picture when blown up.
