Who's working Christmas Eve/Christmas Day?
on: December 24, 2018, 03:39:54 PM
I've got my feet up and will be relaxing, but I know there are many people out there who have to work on these holidays.

They are out there manning emergency phone lines, taking care of folks in the hospital, working their patrols, ready to respond to power shortages, or maybe deployed overseas.

To those of you who are out there making sure the rest of us can enjoy the holidays, THANK YOU.   :salute:

Let us know who you are, so we can acknowledge your sacrifices.  :tu:

I always have to respond to 1st world crisis when customers can't remember how to make the Home Theatre work for the XMas party!

Somehow though this does not seem as worthy as you are looking for.

Nevermind.

And thanks to those who do hold the line too, maybe without even being paid at the moment! :drink:

No thanks, I did my share of that and I'm a lot older and more sensible now

To all those holding down their cities  :hatsoff: and a big thank you, to all those serving in military and away from home  :salute: and a big thank you, and to all those who worked today and will work tomorrow making our lives a little easier  :tu: and a big thank you.

I just got back from the store and it was busy with folks already.  They will be open tomorrow as well.  Gas stations, and other amenities that will also be open are a welcome to those who will need them.

Wishing all peace and joy during this holiday season.

Not what you had in mind, but I did just finish my shift at the Y.   The pool chems are all good, Light bulbs replaced, shower heads reattached, and ceiling tiles put back level, (wonder what those aerobic classes do), and several other repairs from the weekend patrons. Also, repaired a broken pool cue!

The Y is closed on Christmas day :hatsoff:

One son is working his normal fire house shift starting at 6:00 AM Tuesday, the other works his station on Wednesday.   So our family Christmas get to gather will be the 30th this year.

Yes, many thank yous to all that do provide services on the holidays, and who do miss special family moments as result of their commitment. :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I'm working the morning shift at the hospital tomorrow, which means getting up around 05.00h tomorrow morning ...  ::)

I'll have to check the clothing-distribution unit in the hospital, distribute all the food tray carts to the different departments (around 24 departments for a total of 550 beds), collect hazardous waste, collect the empty food tray carts and get them back to the kitchen, collect some more hazardous waste, distribute the food tray carts again, collect some more hazardous waste, eat lunch, and distribute the meds to all the departments, and other urgent stuff for the E.R. and the O.R., one last check up of the clothing-distribution unit and ... back home  :D.

All of this will add up to around 15 to 20 km on foot, most of the time pulling or pushing something from point A to B (and B to C, and C to A again and so on ...).

And while my wife is home for Christmas, she will be working New Year's eve and New Year's day as a nurse in the retirement home (from the same hospital that I work for).

That's why we celebrated Christmas Eve yesterday, and Christmas today (cheating I know, but who's going to find out  :P).

Thanks mate  :salute:.

When you're working those special days, you notice how many people are doing the same thing, be it different jobs, different hours, ... a lot of people have to work those special days, and I can only speak for myself, but as long as I get the chance to spend some quality time with the wife and kids around that "holiday period", it's all good for me.

My family and I were home together this weekend, and next week we'll be home together from Januari 2th to Januari 4th (on the 5th and 6th I'll have to work again  ::)), so we'll make the best of those days  :D.

Huge Thank you to you all.  It really means that those of us who are off can enjoy with added peace of mind.  Those whom you all serve and work for can be at peace knowing there are dedicated persons working hard taking care of business.

Nothing but respect to you all.  I sure remember those days when I too worked on the holidays.

You're all very welcome!!!
I'm luckily not in the front line anymore. I'm the dispatcher…
Well, thinking about it, I still am in the front line, just not physical.

After 40+ years in hospital healthcare I retired this year and this is the first Christmas in that time I've not at least been on call. My great respects to those that keep our vital services functioning day/night/rain/shine/24/7/365. Merry Christmas to all!
