Spyderco vs Benchmade vs Buck????
on: December 25, 2018, 08:04:13 AM
Ok, have a query for your learned opinions...

Which knife of the three do you feel is the best?  What is your reasoning or experiences?

Spyderco Tenacious in G10
Benchmade Griptilian
Buck 110/112 Slim Pro in G10

I will start...

I have the Tenacious. Seems to be a really well made knife. Bronze washers on either side of the blade allows for smooth operation.   It feels good in the hand and pocket carries, with the clip, nicely.  Also, the clip allows placement on either end and on both sides.

I don’t have the Benchmade, but have handled the Mini version. Seems very well built and in the USA, which is a bonus to ME.   Have seen torture videos and the knife seems pretty darn bulletproof!

I have a few Buck 110’s, a Classic and the LT, and really like them but they were cheap. Jumping up to the pricey Slim Pro with G10 scales is a thought, but just not sure it can offer what the Griptilian or Tenacious do??

Do you NEED another knife?

Judging on my own profile, the answer would be "no" quite likely :pok:

If you can spare the budget and feel as if it's interesting to grab it, go for it.

I don't think anyone can decide this in your place since all 3 of those knives are so different.

Different in design, tradition, locking mechanism, ...

I can't imagine any choise would be a wrong one.

Good luck, and have fun! :D

Oh and:
Merry Christmas!!

Spyderco Tenacious in G10
Benchmade Griptilian
Buck 110/112 Slim Pro in G10

I own each of these, though my 110 Slim has the plastic handles.  Since a knife spends 99% of its time in your pocket, I like a slim profile that carries unobtrusively.  So I would go with the 110 Slim for that reason.  But the Griptilian feels best in the hand.  The Griptilian has a round and full profile in the hand, and most feels like a "real" knife.  So it depends on what you are after.

:iagree:   I'd only add that I love the Griptilians. They feel great in hand, which is, for me a very important quality for a knife to have.   The Buck Slim line doesn't interest me too much, I'm a traditional 112/110 fan (again, they feel great in hand).  The Tenacious is a fine knife, but by no means my favorite Spyderco.  That leaves me solidly in the Griptilian camp.

But, what Powernoodle said.

Love all three companies, but for all round use, can't argue with the griptilian. I don't know about the slim series bucks yet, but I'd still go with the griptilian for a modern design

If I am going to carry a Buck 110/112 I prefer the brass or nickel scales and wood handle for the heft, so out of these 3 I would recommend the Benchmade Griptilian. The Tenacious is a good knife, but I like the Griptilian better.

The Griptilian did feel really good and solid.  It also seemed much better suited at one handed use.

I've only ever held the BM.  I have the Spyderco and Buck.  Even between those two theyre so different it'd be hard to say "best".  If you are wanting a knife that can be clipped then you omit the Buck.  If you are looking for OHO then again the Buck is gone.  If you are wanting newer steel choice then both Spyderco and Buck are out.  If you are wanting a song lock then IMO Spyderco is out.  If you want lightweight then Buck is out.  If you are wanting blade shape and cutting edge options only BM remains.

I think you're choice is clear  :pok:

^^^ Lovely looking knife, there, Steve. ^^^

zrxoa1, there is probably a reason the Griptilian is such a popular knife and top-seller for BM.

As an option......what about a Buck Vantage?

I've got the small and love it as a pocket knife. The large Vantage almost a cross between the Griptilian and the Tenacious. Definitely worth a look.

If I had $100 to spend on a knife (the ballpark for the Grip and Buck Pro) I would save a few more pennies and get a Spyderco PM2.

This is a Trick Question,right?

You already have 1 so just 2 more to get the answer for yourself!

I think you will find though that the Grip is in another class than the other two really,at least it is to me.

This takes nothing away from the Buck or Spydie you ask about either.

Easy... you need a Benchmade Griptillian in G10

- Tune it right and you can flick it open and close (just by pulling the axis lock)
- Axis lock rules
- Great ergonomics
- Choice of thumb-stud and hole to your preference...

Forget all of them and get a GiantMouse
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

+1 for the griptilian. But really, the three knives are WAY different, so it really depends.

I do realize they are different.   I think I’m going for the Benchmade. I have a few Bucks and they are great!!

But the near-$100 Slim Pro models just don’t seem to have the quality I have seen with the Griptilians.   They Spydercos are super nice, but the Grips are made here in the US. That is important to me.
