Farewell, my Yellow Golfer
on: December 30, 2018, 01:36:32 AM
I wore a new pair of jeans during pre Christmas lunch with family and decided to bring my yellow Golfer with me. I even used it that day when I had to cut a loose string, and posted such here at MTO. It was only the other day that I noticed that my yellow Golfer is gone. I guess it slipped out of my watch pocket unnoticed.

I feel this sad loss because:

(1) Twas a Golfer, predecessor to the Compact, therefore a rare model. I bought this one from a friend; and,

(2) I waited and paid a lot for the yellow scales from Russia which took more than two months of waiting.

Oh, well. I just hope it's new owner will find it very useful.

And I'm just glad I didn't bring my 1970 Elsener SAK that day!

Hopefully someone at the party will know you carry this SAK and will return it if found.  I only carry 58mm SAKs in my coin pocket because the larger ones tend to get pushed out when seated.

That's why I have a lobster claw on my D.Tinker.
Hopefully you'll find it under a car seat or something.

A beautiful knife with much personal significance, commiserations. Hope you find it, or it's found for you.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe it will still turn up somewhere, I had a similar thing with my alox Vagabond. Had a hole in my pocket and I thought I lost it during a walk outside, but after a while I found it at home under a seat :)

So sorry to hear this, an0nemus.  After the second time someone at work found my slippery alox Bantam that had fallen out of my pocket in a conference room, I started carrying all of my SAKs on thin, discreet leashes.

The good news is that although it will be a hassle, you could recreate your yellow Golfer I guess, right?

Here's what my lanyard setup looks like:

Sorry to hear that...

Have you checked underneath the car seat?
I've found 2 SAKs that slipped away there in the past.

Furthermore, I could hook you up with a new Golfer, but the postage will be more than the tool itself...

Time for you to visit Belgium

yellow scales from Russia
If only you had ordered Victorinox chain from that source... They are super cheap but can save the precious Golfer.
Want to buy:
SwissChamp - 500 Mio
Huntsman - Eidgenossenschaft 700 Year Commemorative
Wenger - FASS 90 Grünig and Elmiger in Green scales

I would like to apologise to anyone I have not offended. Please be patient, I will get to you shortly.
Just a small personal observation.  ...........I would not be at all surprised that when God created the Earth & the heavens, that the SwissChamp was the tool he used. .............. :hatsoff:

Sorry to hear that you lost your Golfer anOnemus.  :(

Hopefully your Golfer will still turn up somewhere.

Check in between and under seat cushions, underneath car seats, in between car seats and the console, coat pockets, etc.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss! Hopefully you will find it when you least expect it to appear and if not, mayby it can spark someone's interest in SAK'S and bring them here and you will have a weird story to tell from two different sides

[It's not failure if you learn something from it]

Sorry for the loss. Bad way to end this year.

I've been there more than once...
Now I only EDC knives that are standard and can be replaced without emotional or financial pain.

My current EDC Huntsman fell on 26th December 2018 on a concrete floor. See picture.
It was on the same day I got the Karl Elsener 1860-1918 Limited Edition knife as a gift. (BTW: Karl Elsener died on 26th December! What a coincidence.)

Yes, it did hurt! But no, I won't replace the scales. The knife is still fully functional. The ones that are irreplaceable or that are very hard to get are being promoted to Shelf Queens and they rest till my death, in some obscure drawers. Totally useless hobby in fact....

Thank you all guys! I enjoyed reading each and every post!

I'll look under the car seat the next time I'm back home. But if it's gone for good, I just hope it serves it's new owner well like how it served me.

Next time I'll be extra careful about my gears. I do have most of the hooks and clips and chain but on that day I just decided to slip it inside my watch pocket thinking it will be secure like in my other jeans. Oh well.

And Nick, when the time comes for me to come to Belgium, I'll surely take you up on your offer!

Happy new year to us all!
