 Thanks CsB! This one was a bit weird. Rust, wood and other crud is normal, but finding wax on a metal saw was a new one for me.

I'm pretty happy. This one turned out to be worth the risk.

Next to a very nice 246fmaU Champion 'b' for comparison:

scales untouched for now

Champion end still has factory scale fitting marks

The Craftsman...not so much. Probably the worst part of this knife

wipe marks just not cleaned

Showing liner contact marks. Otherwise very clean unsharpened/factory grind blade. minor deformations along the very edge.

top of liners could use more attention

Still needs some detail cleaning at the spring contacts and around the pivots

Thanks guys.  :tu: Went to bed happy about it last night.

Found some spare time today to get on with the scale polishing and started with the front. Back looked easy enough to do later.

Looking it over, I decided I didn't want to go through the big longitudinal scratch and a few other short but deepish ones. I don't like removing a lot of material or to try to perfect a knife with any scratches this deep. Typically, I try to maintain the surface profile (including warpage, end curl,  etc. like this one) over making it perfectly smooth or unnaturally flat planed.

1st pass wet sand 2000

2nd pass 2000 and 2500 big scratch still there.

Not bad in 'flat' lighting from the sky reflection

Could use a LOT more resurfacing looking with 'critical' lighting

Next to the same Champion from yesterday/above

Still needs work, but not bad for about 40 mins of effort including time for pics in-between.

Thank you Sir pfrsantos! :salute:  Gotta say I've always liked your signature and recall (versions of) it from my earliest lurking days here. Especially the OCD and 'scrut' parts.  :D

Thanks guys!  :salute:

Got the bug this morning to do more polishing on that Craftsman...

Improved the surface a bit more for better reflections

]

also knocked down some of the roundness that developed on the shield inlay

Before

After

Might take a little more off the shield before I'm done. Still a little more proud than I'd like.

Is it simply reversed?

The keyring hole and combo tool are facing forward, and also on the opposite side...

And the scissors match that...

Its unique, whatever it is :tu:
