Had 41 minutes to get a little more done before I needed to get started on dinner... :ahhh so forgive me for not taking pics at every step!

And apparently, I can use the Force to levitate knives:

Still need to finish filing and peening. Anyone notice that I was working with the pins 'free' and not in any jig or board?

Any guesses on the scales planned? Or suggestions what you'd use?  :dunno:

Can I claim the combo tool location as 'kamakiri style'?  :D

G10 scales!  :tu:
That's a great suggestion!  I've never had one with G10 before.   Color suggestion, Ray?  I'm thinking I'd get some SwissBianco ones in the future when I mod something I really like.

Nice work kamakiri  :tu: :like:

Thanks Wspeed! I gotta say I'm not trying to make this one super clean and used the drilled side bushings from both knives instead of the 6 clean ones.  Peening is going to be rough as I see this assembly as temporary for my use and testing.

Great build!

 Been lurking for a while but wasn't sure if it was done before and I never noticed. Thanks CsB! Black is and has been a consideration. And I have some in stock...

------

Okay, the scales I had at the top of the list were Silvertech...but I've been agonizing over the lack of Plus option. It was mostly for the look, as I was polishing this one inside and out for all visible surfaces. And then put aluminum tweezers in...

Might just stick some temporary red NTO stock I got from Central Valley Wholesale before they closed up Vic sales.

That is nice too... Very GAK-like!  :like:
I've had several types of the SwissBianco ones bookmarked...I just find them a little spendy and not always available in plus style or glow dot. Orange has been at the top of the G10 list but some neon green ones have been available cheap recently.  :-\

Maybe a little anti-climactic, but I buttoned it up with temporary scales - the take-offs from the donor Explorer while I evaluate carry this mod/build.

For now 'officially' calling it a Reverse Compact Explorer w/ Nail File or Kamakiri Explorer. Probably needs a better name.

shiny inside:

1 pin end is probably not flush on the left side of this pic. ugh.

Probably should cut my own spacer or make it evenly recessed

One issue with putting the in line phillips next to the liner is that it makes contact. I used an interior spacer on one side when I did the double magnifier from earlier because of this issue.

Thanks for the support, suggestions and kind comments during this build!  :)

'Yeoman Special' was the initial project name...but maybe Reverse Yeoman makes more sense? Small Blade Yeoman? Kamakiri Yeoman?

 :ahhh too many options...

And checking the wiki on Yeomen, theres a pic of two with the scissor and mag/phillips layer switched. Might have worked better for this one too.  I don't use hooks much, but I like it better in the middle for kickstand use.

And always better used that way without either keyring style in the way.  I gotta make one with a hook and shackle, because the it can be flipped out of the way!

Thanks gentlemen, and good to meet you Sir Jones!  :hatsoff:  :salute:

I was thinking about making it a Woodsman or Modeler version, but indecision on that and what donor knife to pull got in the way of project timing. Next one is probably going to be a kamakiri Troubleshooter.

January Challenge is over...back to work:

Liners were too dirty and oxidized to leave alone.  Re-brushed them all before polishing all the visible surfaces and edges.

Gonna go through all the tools too, so assembly might not happen until next week.  Only tool done was the Metal Saw and that's not going to get extra polish.

Great mod the reverse kamakiri style yeoman thingy  :like:

I was wondering, does the combo tool get in contact with the scissors?
And do you think the mag/philips layer could be better put into the middle position?

Excellent thread btw  :hatsoff:

Looking forward to the next one

  Thanks, MTMatt!

There's zero contact for the combo and scissor.  The combo tool does sit into the liner space, but have to push pretty hard to make them touch. I thought about the mag layer in the middle like the Swiss Bianco? (not sure on that), but I think the older/longer Phillips would make contact with the combo where the newer short style wouldn't (I suppose). If I recall correctly, the original Yeoman had the same liner contact issue. I figured I could live with it.

Not sure if I mentioned it earlier, the main reason for the reverse is to have the short side spring and higher compression to resist movement better when using it as a pry tool. I'd say the force to close is nearly double from the normal position.  I know most would not like the small blade, but I wanted this to be proof of concept to put a Pruner blade instead.

This one is 'nothing special' technically speaking. I've got some other more interesting stuff lined up for 'proofing'.  :tu:

Looking good

 Thank you Sir W!  :salute: I hope this one isn't too boring!

-----

I also gotta get back to some of the content I intended for the original post.  :ahhh  But new mods are more fun.  :woohoo:

-More of the story for my '84.5 Champion

-The bee story

- Marlboro stuff and mods

-Champions

-Early naming conventions (Particularly Craftsman and 136xxx relatives)

-More Hoffritz and Timeline data

-Ranger Production Timeline

-Camping Inlay Timeline

-Vintage Catalog version dating.

And I'm probably forgetting something at the moment.  ::)

Project: 'Troublemaker'

Had some time to finish my Troubleshooter Lite + Pen. Waffled a bit about adding a Wood Saw and using the Corkscrew instead for this temporary/test build and making it a Handyman Lite Plus, but it would add time to get the Saw from the fodder box.  And adding another Layer would make it close to Champ size.  This way it would still be about a half layer thinner than a Champ and about a full layer thinner than a CT Lite but have at least 1 saw. Intent is to have a Magnifier in place of the In-line Phillips for the 'final' build.

Misc polishing:

Don't need this:

'free' pins during assembly:

Layer 1 Openers/Awl:

Layer2 Lite (would add magnifier here on permanent build instead of phillips):

Layer 3 Pliers (FYI - If I put the scissor here it could save a 1mm spacer):

Layer 4 Scissor/Hook:

Layer 5 Saw/Chisel:

Layer 6 Blades and back Phillips:

Top view:

Measure and trim pins:

Hammer Time:

Pressed on original/modified for pen scales:

Very entertaining  :like:

 Thanks, CsB...I hope this one was, even if a little. Was glad for the knife time today and to finish this one.  :woohoo:
