I haven't had a chance to try out all the features but the strippers are very sharp and worked well the one time I used them. The stoplock is a bit fiddly but it works.

That looks like a very nice tool Supratentorial, thanks for the Awesome pictures also. I have looked at one at my local Menards but initially discredited it since I don't do *that much* electrical work. However for the little amount that I do tackle, that would be quite a handy asset.

Yes, Bob. I have found them not in the tool department, but way over by the electrical area. In the store near me, they are located in the same isle right next to the coax crimpers and such. If memory serves me correctly they had 2 styles to choose from.

Okay, I finally got the driveway clear and checked out the local Menards store. They have the Paladin PT-510 and PT-525, but not the new PT-540.

Although it's probably just as well that they didn't have it. The prices on those two tools were pretty high, I'm sure the PT-540 will be even higher.

My local Menards has a few Paladin tools but not the PowerPlays.

A sales rep told me that only the larger stores have the Paladin multi-tools.

I bought the PT-525 for $40 on Ebay.

Whoa! I didn't realize the 540 was so much bigger than the 525! That thing must be approaching the Surge in the size and weight catagory.

I was also surprised by the size of the 540. The 525 more closely resembles a SOG Powerlock. I wonder if the 540 is modeled after one the new SOG multi-tools. I do like the 540 a lot but the 525 is a bit more managable because of its smaller size.

IEI in Hazlet, NJ, sells them. "COOL!", I exclaimed when I first saw them. Then, "Wow, that's a difference" when I saw the size differences between the two. The 540 was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. The 525, while a good size, seemed a little undersized but I liked its size more than the 540. Size they were plastic-molded I couldn't handle them. The tool sizes from what I could see were a little smallish, but maybe that's because I'm used to my Core now. Methinks the 540 is a little overpriced and would go with the 525 if I needed one. Wait, I -do- need one, don't I? Of course!

The 1/4" drive on the Paladin and SOG tools is a bit fiddly. The 1/4" drive fits diagonally into the hex adapter and is held in place by a tension wire--not quite as sturdy as other mechanisms. There's a fair amount of play and the 1/4" drive will sometimes slip out of the adapter. Following the current trend, I shot a short video showing the drive slipping out of the adapter. The video is wobbly partially because of the play in the adapter and partially because I'm using the driver in my left hand (I'm right handed) and filming with my right hand.

Maybe it's your adapter, I have just the opposite problem. My adapter gets stuck on the SOG adapter and I have to use quite a bit of pulling to get it off.

Good to know. I guess there's some variability. I have two adapters and three multi-tools with 1/4" drives. Both adapters and all three 1/4" drives fit loosely.

That gives us an n=3. I can think of one forum member who probably has more SOGs than the rest of us combined.

...maybe he'll increase the n for us.

I only have one SOG adapter, and it doesn't fit any of the multitool drives as snugly as it should.

I'm thinking the problem is in the square hole of the adapter itself. I tried a Sears Craftsman 1/4" socket, and it "snaps" into place nicely on the driver. I notice there is a little detent in each wall of the square hole on the Craftsman. There are no such detents in the SOG adapter.

How about you guys? Try a regular 1/4" socket and see what you think......

I don't own a SOG adapter, but the Craftsman 1/4 socket clicks onto the tool very solidly...if it held bits magnetically, then it would be prefect..but the bits just fall out.

Is the SOG adapter magnetic?

The two adapters I have are different form your guys. I can't remember where I got them but the hole that fits the SOG adapter is a perfect square with no detents. The side that take the hex bit has a spring inside that helps hold the bit in place. Both fit tightly. Sorry for the blurry pic and the sound of the video.http://youtube.com/watch?v=oypUoYrIfhM
