I think he said you can email him if you need something from the store, right?
If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?

If you need or want anything from the store stock in the meantime (or want a price on anything that may not have been in the store) feel free to send me a PM and I will do my best to help you out.

Yep, he did!

So you can start rescuing those poor SAKs  :pok:

Matt,

Simple Green is a biodegradable, all-purpose clean/degreaser. I have to say, it has become my go-to cleaner for numerous chores, from cleaning SAK's to cleaning the grill. It does an amazing job....on everything.

(Image removed from quote.)

I'm not sure it can be found outside the US, although I think they have ambitions to market it world-wide.

Initially I thought the Spartan was badly rusted. But what appeared to be rust was mostly grime. The Simple Green and hot water, with a bit of scrubbing, cleaned it off nicely!   :tu:

p.s. I don't advocate SAK abuse or mistreatment, but I bet Grant has another couple of grungy SAK's at the MTo store that would love new homes with caring Swiss Army Knights!

Cheers mate  :salute:
Not as rusty as it looked then.
We do have similar products here most probably.
I might just scan the bay and see if I can spot something interesting until Grant & Whoey have the store revived

Nice story Nix. I know the feeling. Not everyone understands why someone would love used knives.  Good job on the knife, but also for documenting and sharing! :tu:

Just a little follow-up:

The Spartan got sharpened. The small blade came back to shaving fairly quickly. The main blade required a diamond stone, followed by a hard Arkansas stone, and a nice stropping. But it's hair shaving sharp now, too.

And a lanyard got added.

So the rescued Spartan is now fully ready for more adventures.  :tu:

A great save! So you had to do a couple of extra steps on getting the blade up to being sharp. I would say its ready for duty  :salute: :tu:

Way to go Jack!  I wish I had taken pictures of that Sportsman I rescued.  It was really abused.  There's nothing like seeing an old warrior being brought back to life!

Thanks, Barry and Badger. A fun little project....and now I have a new (to me) SAK to mess around with.

It's odd, but a second hand knife like this, one I've put a little work into, often means more to me than a NIB knife or tool. It's just fun to get to know a tool's quirks of age and see it come back to a useable state. And...it sure won't be harmed by any extra use!

Nothing like finding a 'rescue', and turning-it into a valued member of the collection.  Result:  happy ending!! :hatsoff:

Also I think of a BNIB as a baby, just starting out in life. A rescue is a new friend, who has been thru some tuff times and you are helping it come back.
