The Victorinox Swisscard
on: January 04, 2019, 04:40:36 PM
Saw a few threads in search pertaining to these but none really answered a few questions of mine

How many of you have these?  How good are the individual implements? What different models are out there and what experiences does anyone have with them?

Thanks for any and all input guys :tu:

I have been toying with the idea of getting one and would like to know more about the pros and cons of some of these  :salute:

How many of you have these?

I have just one, a Swisscard lite, which I have carried in my wallet for the last 3 years.

How good are the individual implements?

They are about the same size as those on a 58mm SAK, and for their size they do a great job. I don’t have any complaints about mine

What different models are out there and what experiences does anyone have with them?

As far as I am aware; there’s Swisscard and Swisscard Lite, available in Blue, Red and Black

I am out and about atm. I’ll post better pictures later

There's also a nail care version.

I used to own one SwissCard but I don't think I ever used it. I probably gave it away, possible to some MTo member :) It wasn't a bad tool or a bad design, I just never used it :)

Correction:

- Swisscard Classic
- Swisscard Lite

To my understanding, the difference are thatthe classic has a file and toothpick in it and the lite has screw drivers, nail, magnifying glass and a light in it.

Both currently available in transparent blue, red and black

Classic one was sold at one point in solid grey too, but I don’t think it still is

From what I can find: There was an older model just called “Swisscard” that was available in solid grey too, it had like a turning door that one would open to access the scissors and other tools

It’s single white diode, it gives about enough light to find a key hole or similar, but that’s about it.

I don’t know if it’s possible to swap it with an LED, would be cool though

Some are quite rare and also discontinued. So in reality there are not that many (relevant) variations :)

I EDC the NailCare. Handy little thing and it supplies toothpick, nail-file, needle, magnifying glass, small screwdrivers and more.... It is quite a good companion to the Spirit.

Of all those that Reinier mentioned, only the Swisscard Classic, Swisscard Lite and Nail Care are still in production...

I have the Lite version in my card holder... tools are about the same size as the classic as already mentioned... Plus you get a pen and ss pin... scissors are a bit awkward to hold but gets the job done...

Oh, the mag lens is quite convenient for taking macro shots with your mobile phone...

Apart from info available on Sakwiki, there’s another resource we can refer to:

Here’s an old pic of mine... Swisscard Originsl, Lite, Quattro and Classic...

The Classic is essentially the modern version of the Original sans the sliding door covering scissors...

The classic is considered a gen 3... The original being gen 1 and original (with protractor behind sliding door) being gen 2...

Quattro has similar tools to Classic but has the quattro sd i/o scissors...

Both the Quattro and Classic can come in money clip or sun visor version... The clips just slide in the nail file slot...

The Lite version looses the nail file and toothpic but gains the mag glass and quattro sd...

The Nail care is similar to the lite version... difference being, nail file instead of blade and toothpick instead of light...

This ones always in my wallet, the Quattro. I used to have an original solid grey Swisscard but lost it in the fire.
The Quattro is ok, but I miss the scissors from my original swisscard. I don’t miss the swing door that kept falling off though.

Here’s what’s left of the original.

Yeah, that swinging door is very fragile...!I think that’s why Victorinox came out with the classic...

I like how the swisscard has very low profile... conceals easily and doesn’t get you strange looks when you take it out...

I understand that in Australia, it is also now illegal to carry card based tools... This includes the swisscard...

No worries Poncho... just be warned, the nail file is quite brittle as it is made of the same plastic material as the card... That’s where I don’t get it... Vic should have just used the same nail file as the classic with a little change in the handle profile...

Vic does that, then I’m switching from the Lite to the Nail Care...

I only use them for formal attire.  I say swave and deboner  ;)

I usually crack card tools if I put them in my wallet. So I stopped doing that decades ago. I use the cards when I feel the alox money clip won't be enough and use a plain money clip holding the card, license, CC and cash. I can't look like Daniel Craig with my wallet anywhere in a suit.  ::) :D

The nail-file is glass, its the gold standard for nail-files.

I'm fairly certain there was a version with a scale on it, you you could use the "swinging door" to measure angles. :salute:

I recently submitted to Vic, that they should change on side of the NailCare into a mirror (I even suggested they could add a spotting hole). I got no reply, so I think they are not interested, too bad, I really liked that idea.

The protractor scale is embossed on the back of the sliding door, hard to photograph atm :tu:

This one is part of my collection so never carry it but i don't think it would hurt too much just to slip it into your wallet and its there if needed, just remember it will probably be classed as a fixed blade if you get stopped
