This month's Donation Draw isn't just gorgeous, it's a bit of good advice as well. First off, her name is Tahara, and this Euro Beauty is every bit as elegant as that name would suggest.
In Hollywood women are no longer considered attractive after they reach a certain age, but for the rest of the world, there are more than enough examples to prove this is not true- Sandra Bullock, Nigella Lawson, Jane Seymour, Lucy Lawless, and now Tahara all show that beauty can persist well beyond the first fifty years.
And, like the others, Tahara won't tell you her age, because, like the others, Tahara doesn't have a date stamp. You can guess if you like, maybe even make an educated guess based on certain criteria, but you'd be missing the point, and never truly enjoy what an amazing beauty like this has to offer. For example, despite being marked as a personal knife with no date stamp, Tahara also has WaffenKontrol marks to show that she has seen her fair share of action, and has come through it excellently.
Tahara is no one's prima donna shelf queen. She has made herself useful on many occasions- and I will admit that I obtained her from someone who described her in less positive tones, and I myself had intended to take her apart and customize her with some fancy scales.... but when she arrived I instantly fell in love with her exactly as she is, and I couldn't bear to change a thing.
This is where I am going to end my misogynistic anthropomorphism of this beautiful knife, as it may start to get a bit insulting, weird or both.... but the fact remains that this knife is in much better shape than I was led to believe when I bought it. It has some pitting and scratches on the handles, the very tip of the blade is broken and only partially repaired, and you will spend a lot of money in manicures if you try to get the screwdriver or can opener open by hand, but that doesn't change how spectacular this knife is.
The can opener and awl are perfect, not broken off as many are, the screwdriver is rock solid and ready for work and the blade, while older, still has lots of life left in it.
We know it is at least 59 years old, as every member here should be well aware, this style was discontinued in 1961 with the introduction of ALOX knives, so even without a date stamp we know this knife has been around for a while. And let's face it, no one in the world is restoring an '86 Toyota Camry or 1991 Honda Civic, because the older stuff is so much nicer....
