Think no more!  :2tu:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96sterreichischer_Bergrettungsdienst
Sorry its not in English
Google translate is my friend:
"The Austrian Mountain Rescue Service is an aid organization that carries out the mountain rescue service in Austria. The mountain rescue is divided into seven national organizations in Austria."
I looked for the language tab and didn’t see it. Oh well, but from the photos and exploring the site, it looks like a great organization!
Your knife has a great association.  :tu:

Thanks all!
As for the finish, it's a grey non-reflective coating that is put on some of the Wenger knives.  Seems I only have it on my camo versions.

I know it's day 8, but day 7 had some extras.
I bought these two items as well as the Wenger Camo.

Thank you RR and Wspeed.
I found one that is similar on an ended auction.  It has a red LED and L.L. Bean on the other scale....so when it arrives I'll know if it is one of those.

I think that's exactly what it is. I have a user just like that red LED/LL Bean. Nice to see such a clean copy.  I don't think I've seen a black scaled MMC with the newer, white lites.  I do know that there are some white lites in the old scale style without the swinging battery door.

Nice find either way!  :like:
Mystery solved.  Dim red LED.  It doesn't have LL Bean on the back.  It's even in the wrong box.  Box is for a regular MiniChamp II.

Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.
