Victorinox logo
on: December 08, 2008, 08:19:13 AM
I think there was an article (or mention in one) on sosak about it, but I can't seem to find now. What's the significance of reverse logo. On this Spartan that was picked up recently the logo is on the corkscrew side, there is no logo/advertisement on the reverse (regular) side. The awl has a sewing hole, the corkscrew is of the thinker style, reverse side of the main blade has the crossbow and officer suisse stamp (1985-2005). I also have two climbers (newer post 2005 production) with the same reverse logo. Thx V.

If you're the kind of company that does business promotional stuff, you know coasters with Fred's Plumbing on and the like you can buy in SAKs like that for the purpose of printing/engraving.

Most of the second hand ones you see are ex.advertising ones that have had their advertising removed.  You can almost always tell on close examination though.  If you hold them at the right angle to the light you tend to see a really faint ghost of the original text.

Neil any ideas on how the advertising would be removed, I would not have thought it would be cost effective to mark the knife & then remove the marking

My dad worked at a printing plant (just him and the boss  :D ) and I helped him out one summer, we used acetone to remove the print if it didn't come out right. Also a acetone wipe before you apply the paint is necessary to clean the surface.

Polishing the scales with T-cut removes them pretty easily.

Bet you still get a ghost advert with t-cut if you hold it at just the right angle.  I'm a picky perfectionist  ::)

The only way I've found to totally get rid of them is to treat it as if the scale was scratched.  Rub the advert off with wet and dry paper, then when you think it's all gone rub with wet and dry again, if you omit that extra rub you can still end up with a ghost.  Then you can move to really fine paper and polishes.   You do have to ask yourself why you're bothering at this stage  :ahhh

Normal people will probably be happy enough with the t-cut  :D
