Paracord tying the hangman’s knot
on: January 07, 2019, 03:09:56 PM
I am making some paracord lanyards
I like the idea of making the hangman’s noose
As my lanyard as I can use the
loop to pull the knife from it’s pouch  :tu:

Here are instructions with some pics on how to make one

Step 1: Hold your rope vertically with both ends in one hand so that you have formed a loop.

Step 2: Grab the ends several inches down and allow the left side to fall away. You have thus created a pivot where the loop is intact but now smaller, as well as you have additional slack rope.

Step 3: Wrap the "slack rope" around the top of the loop (where two side of the rope touch each other). Continue to wrap until you are out of slack.

Step 4: Thread the end of the rope that you've been wrapping around through the small loop you've created at the top of the hangman's knot.

I only wrapped it 3 times for the
pics as it’s easier to see what to do
The larger noose is what you want it too look like  :tu:

I heard of Blood Knot but with leather. Very different from this in paracord.

Tandy Leather has a slightly different name for it: Bleed Knot. Maybe this is the correct?...

I learned that the hangman's knot needs 13 loops... for reasons... and superstition ::)
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Good one Etherealicer  :like:
I got this information on how many loops

Number of coils

Each additional coil adds friction to the knot, which makes the noose harder to pull closed or open. The number of coils should therefore be adjusted depending on the intended use, the type and thickness of rope, and environmental conditions such as wet or greasy rope. Six to eight loops are normal when using natural ropes. One coil makes it equivalent to the simple slip knot. One bit of lore says that the noose would have nine to thirteen coils to be considered a true "hangman's" knot. Woody Guthrie sings of the hangman using thirteen coils: "Did you ever see a hangman tie a hangknot? I've seen it many a time and he winds, he winds, After thirteen times he's got a hangknot."

That's a good idea. Or even a leather section. Hum... nah! Knowing MTo, it won't take long to get it NSFW.

Yup. That's a great design. You get to have a braid with both ends closed.

The Blood knot is a popular fishing knot for tying monofilament to monofilament.

It works well since it is symmetric around the axis of the line and fairly strong. I find it a bit fiddly to tie while standing in a cold stream on a windy day.

I suppose that means I need more practice.....
