heritage leatherman rebar junk?
on: January 08, 2019, 07:33:51 PM
a few weeks back i bought a new leatherman rebar heritage, after carrying it on my side for two days the need for it arose, as i tried to tighten a bolt on my cousins mountain bike the plier head split in half.

ive always loved leatherman and am really hoping this was just one defective tool, anyone else had problems out of the rebar recently?

thanks in advance, Matt

Sorry to hear that you have broken pliers
It does sound like you have a defective LM
Hopefully Leatherman will give you a new one  :tu:

Bummer that happened to you.  We've certainly seen on the forum LM pliers failing and I have a PST that broke the way you describe.  Not sure what the issue is .  Heat treat, bad batch of plier heads, my enthusiasm  :dunno:.   LM will take care of you as their warranty is top notch.  Still doesnt sit right as you have to pay to ship it to them.

i dont mind paying shipping to get my tool back, the sad part is after the rebar broke i grabbed my signal with the same plier head and it did the job just fine, oh well a new rebar will be on my hip soon

Though, it does make one wonder, two Rebars breaking exactly the same way... Can you maybe describe what you've been doing exactly at that moment (using the pliers tip/gap to grab a nut, grabbing the bolt with the pliers while turning the nut with another tool etc?) ?

My problem with the pliers on the Rebar is that they get stiff every time I squeeze hard on something with them, and this doesn’t seem to go away regardless of how much I use them

Also the tip of the jaws on the pliers are not as pointy / needle nosed as the jaws old model pliers design

I've had no problems with my Rebar pliers and I've used it pretty heavily.

I wonder if it's a casting flaw. I noticed that when I got my ST300 back, its plier head had all kinds of microscopic pock-marks and the like scattered all over the head.
