111mm White scales
on: December 31, 2018, 09:25:23 AM
Did anyone notice this?

https://www.victorinox.com/global/en/Swiss-Army-Knives/cms/swissarmyknives-main

Under the top banner "Explore our Swiss Army Knives" is a photo where a white scaled 111mm SAK is partially visible.
Yet in their catalog I can't find any white scales options.
Was this ever a thing? Or is it something we can expect in the future?

I've seen them but those were all advertizing SAKs with a company logo.
Strange that they would use one on their promotional images.

Well that definitely looks like a white 111mm... Did anyone else notice the old (oval) thumb hole?

At first I thought you were looking at a different image, but my picture got larger when I full-screened the page

This is the image I referred too:

I don't see a thumbhole. Isn't that the linerlock you see?

Oh, those are wonderful!

White really suites the 111mm.
Those white/black dual density scales are something else!

The Siemens ones that Karl posted? Those are cool. Must have been made specifically for Siemens.

Fooled me too
 - Had to get out one of my 111mm to understand the pic
- It's a nick-opening blade and the 'hole' is the shadow of the top scale on the liner-lock !!!

In 2018, at least 3 111-mm models (Forester, Outrider, Picknicker) were released for Russian market with 'unusual' color of scales, - green, blue and white.
Example of knife with white scales: https://www.citilink.ru/catalog/furniture/business_gifts/nozhi_perochinnye/1050337/

LeaF,
Maybe this is a stupid question, but is the Russian Vic market the same as the Ukrainian Vic market? There are some tensions between the two countries (understatement of the year), so I can imagine that these are separate markets.

Unfortunately, they are not the same. In the past we were a part of one big country, but now - we're living in different ones with different markets.

Only two I've seen was on a (slide-lock) Hercules for Leica and a (linerlock) Dual-Grip Nomad for Siemens. Guessing both were more or less exclusive.

White is part of the choice of color for 111mm advertising knives, not for the bi-material scales though so that Siemens example is probably a rare thing. https://victorinox.myassets.ch/fb/en/wa/index.html#56

I have a blue Nomad (or a Sentinel? I can't recall) which was an advertising knife which I sent to Vic for repair (the blade was a shadow of its former self). They replaced the front scale with ad by another blue one without the ad (both original scales were mildly damaged btw). So this may be a trick to use if one wants a fully white and non-advertising 111mm knife. Probably wouldn't work with the bi-material scales though.

Also with contacts at official Vic retailers, one might be able to just order the scales. I have heard that the headquarters have tightened the rules and will only sell you "special-colored" scales (as in, not in the store lineup/only on ad knives) to replace scales of a same color on a knife you own. How the stores apply this rule may vary... and you could walk in with a scale-less knife and say both white scales were broken and you want new white scales...
