For the regular file side any type of wire brush or file card can be used but I just hold the diamond file under running water and scrub it with my finger (and little liquid soap if you want)

Soap and a toothbrush!

Try using someone else's toothbrush or an old one...

Or a new one you won't use afterwards... yourself...

Oil and wire brush, even on the diamond side. Then soap and wash. Will look as good as new.

I use this same method and it works best. But get a stainless steel wire brush (used by TIG welders to avoid contamination). You can also use the brish to restore the brushed finish of the LM’s handle, pliers, etc.

I use a standard, high quality pencil eraser for my Diamond files, a file card for the metal cutting side.

I learned to maintain my files with a file card.  Soft brass brush will do if you don't have a file card.
Don't oil the file as a rule.
If you do oil a file, thoroughly clean oil  off before using again.

( the above learned the hard way)

The diamond file side of my Wave is almost smooth now, but the soap and water suggestion above seems like a plan.

Some great responses here, several of which I use as the occasion warrants.  One thing I also do is to blow out the entire tool with my air compressor, just to ensure that no small particles get into the crevices.
