Share some pictures of places in YOUR country
on: January 21, 2019, 11:11:02 AM
I searched around and didn’t find a similar thread, but just delete this if there is another thread about the same thing.

Anyway I thought it would be fun for everyone to share some pictures of different places in their countries.

Pictures of towns (maybe your hometown or capital?), monument, historic buildings etc.

Let’s try and do so you as a minimum say where the pictures were taken and (if applicable) of what they are taken of..

Alright....Let’s do this....

Frederiksborg Castle, Hillerød, Denmark

Old streets of Helsingør, Denmark

Okay....your turn!

 :like:

I had an idea for a thread (but never posted it) where each person shows a photo of right outside their house, another of somewhere within say 1km, and lastly one within 100km.

I guess I was waiting until I had some good photos of the above to start it with.

I may still do it...  :pok:

Was looking through my computer for a few more pictures...

And sorry for the crappy pictures, but the site will only let me upload pictures smaller then 512 KB...which is pretty crappy considering we live in 2019, but whom am I to criticize...

...Anyway..

@ Poncho,  what a great area.  Must be so peaceful there.  I live in a big city tho in a small section of it.  I have nothing but horse stables and "farms" south of me.  West of me is the Pacific Ocean after about 2 mile of homes.  Still kinda rural-ish for this big city.  I like the watch for tractor signs mixed with stop signs.  We get horse poo in the streets but honestly its not terrible.  I dream about living out in the sticks but for now proximity to the ocean and local mountains are a mixed blessing.

The old Post office at the Sault Ste Marie Ontario Locks.

American boat tour on the Ste. Mary's river.

Pine Street Marina in Sault Ste Marie Ontario Canada.

International Bridge going over the Canadian Sault Locks. At one time, the Canadian locks did a lot of commercial traffic...but the boats got bigger and thus only recreational and tour boats go through it these days. The larger locks are on the Michigan side...and even those are  in dire need of repair. If those break down, bad consequences to both the US and Canadian economies as it would effectively close down the whole Lake Superior area to the Great Lake freighters. The Americans are talking about repairing/maintaining/building theirs.

Sault Ste. Marie Ontario City Hall. This year, there is going to be some renovations to the building. The city hall was built in the late 70s, and I guess the distinctive windows are no longer made, and the current ones are now leaking somewhat. The new building look is to toss those distinctive windows and clad the whole building in white instead of brown.

This is an old photo as we no longer have boat tours from the Canadian side...but in this photo, you can see one of the Canadian tour boats. However, you can see the distinctive Roberta Bondar Pavilion (white) on the left, and the City Hall on the right with one of those apartment buildings just visible behind it. This photo was taken from the east end of the Canadian locks on Whitefish Island, which is now ceded to the local Native American Ojibwa tribe. I must say, since the local band took over, the grounds have been maintained a whole lot better than when Parks Canada had control. They built a whole lot of wooden walkways and pavilions to rest in, etc.

Last but not least, a photo of one of the American tour boats in the Canadian locks. If you are ever in the area, the tour boats are a neat way of seeing both the impressive American locks as well as our smaller and older lock.

Its nice and the weather too.  The older I get and the prices we pay is what drives many out the state.  3 bdrm 2 bath 1200-1400 sq ft home on 6000-7000 sq ft lot is 500K in a so so area.

My friend moved to Texas and is making the same money she was in Cali and is flush with cash.
