It's not Holland, that's a 'state'/province, please call it The Netherlands.

I agree with Serena. I am a Hollander even though I live in a different province now. But Serena is not from Holland.

Also, I think we should replace the word Dutch with Netherlands (or Netherlandish or something) :D
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Sorgenfri Castle, Sorgenfri, Denmark

Not open to the public, so this was as close as I could get.

For some reason they call it “Sorgenfri Palace” on this map, even though “Sorgenfrislot” as its locally called translates to “Sorgenfri Castle”. Also “Slotshave” means “Castle gardens”

I can't take credit for the photo, this is the Citadel in Halifax Nova Scotia, you can see it's a star shaped fort that was popular at the time the British arrived in the mid 1700s, it's now an Historic site located in the downtown core of a very urban city

That’s for a long debate about what is a “Castle”, “palace”, “Manor”, “Fort”, “Mansion”

When most people hear the word “Castle”, they think of knights, princes and princesses blah blah

Throughout Europe you will see the word “Castle” being used for a lot of big country houses too, and even for watch towers from medieval times

The truth is; It’s just the name of the place.....don’t think too much about it

Possibly just to attract tourists

Here in Denmark; it seems like if a big manor belongs to or used to belong to the royal family, they call it a “Castle”

Edit:

Either royal family or what we call “adlen” which are like Barons, Counts, Countess etc.

St. Joseph Island bridge.

The International Bridge that connects Sault Ste Marie Ontario with Sault Ste Marie Michigan.

A common sight, one of the many Great Lake Freighters plying the St Mary's river which connects Lake Huron with Lake Superior.

A floating dam that prevents floating things from entering the Great Lakes Power Generating Plant. On the other side is Algoma Steel.

Taken from the Roberta Bondar Pavilion...The Norgoma is seen, and to the left, is the OLG Lottery building. Of note, the city Mayor hates the Norgoma and tried to sell it but quickly found out that the city did not own the ship. End result, the foundation that does own it was given a date to remove the ship from the marina. Unfortunately, the current Mayor (whom I did not vote for), does not see the tourism that the museum ship brings in. Note that you can just see the gold tinted windows of city hall beyond the Norgoma. I figure he just doesn't like looking on the ship from his office windows...but that is just my personal opinion.

Bellvue Park in winter time. The nicest park found in Sault Ste Marie.

and one in warmer times.

The Little Mermaid, Langelinie, Copenhagen

Yep, the genuine Little Mermaid, based on H.C. Andersen’s fairy tale, also which the Disney movie is based on.

Even though the one on display here is a replica of the original put up in 1913 (due to vandalism), this is as close to the original as they get. Modeled after Ellen Price and sculptured by Edvard Eriksen

Personally I think it’s a bit overhyped, as it’s just a 1,25 m tall bronze statue sitting on a rock, but it’s a major tourist attraction here
