You really do not like the disco modes?

What if they are hidden and you don't have to cycle thru them?  What if its only strobe and no SOS?

I don't like disco mode, I'll typically avoid lights that have them. Though if say you had to hold for like 3-5 seconds to activate it it wouldn't bother me.

As long as they are hidden well enough that I never get them by accident I don't really care, but if I get them when I'm simply trying to alter the light level then I won't buy that light.

I like them hidden as well.  I'd rather not have them easily accessed.

I do not care currently

It was fashionable to dislike them a decade ago, as they were seen as pointless or a sign of a cheap torch (Maglites did not have them :)  )

Especially if the light has setting memory, or if they are hidden, they are of no bother.

I like in an area with few street lights.  The roads can be pretty dark.  I told a story when I was walking and used the strobe point at the ground while walking.  I like the SOS for that purpose especially with a diffuser.  I use lip balm caps for AAA lights.

Does anyone really know the SOS feature?  If you were to use it would most people know you were signaling SOS?

I really dislike them. I normally use a flashlight when I need to illuminate a really dark area. I would ideally want a flashlight that would illuminate to max brightness by default and if it has any other modes needs to be manually selected(switch or 3-5 second button press) and not cycled through. Mode cycling is annoying even when the push button can do so by a tap. To me it's a bug not a feature.

Mode memory is great for that Greg  :tu:.  Both my Olight S1R and Zebraight have strobe that requires you to want to access it.  Unless you want strobe cycling thru wont get you to it.  Mode memory is nice and with the ZL you can program hi as your first setting or just let mode memory remember for you.

I have a couple of lights with strobe modes, not by choice, they were the light I wanted at the time and that's a feature.  So I don't care for strobe mode, but it won't exclude me from buying a light that I otherwise like.

I don't mind them when they're strapped into the handlebars of our bicycles. Other than that, I like them hidden.

Call me old fashioned, but I just want two things in an EDC flashlight. #1: On/off function. #2: Beam focus.  :pommel:

While multi mode lights are fine, if I don't have anything else, the flashing modes make me crazy. :ahhh

Mode memory?

It's a torch, not a bloody chess playing super computer!

I like my torches like I like my women - with two AA batteries, a diode, and a circuit that is completed by the press of a button or twist of a cap.

I have not yet heard of these referred to as AA batteries?

A,B,C,D batteries for sure but AA? :dunno:

Really?  I've never seen an A or a B battery, but AA and AAA are more common than the C and D now days.

Pretty much the same. They don't really bother me and I never needed to use them, either as defense or signalling, so...

I wonder just how often they are ever used in the real world. Then compare that statistic to the 3+ types of strobe available on many flashlights.

I don't get it. I don't like bike strobe lights either, never have either as a cyclist or a driver.

We have a number of crosswalks in our area on fairly busy roads.  I like to have a light with an easily available strobe function so that I can use it in the crosswalk.  A steady flashlight does not always catch the attention of drivers (even when crossing at a pedestrian controlled light).  Other than that it has little use for me.

Great use of the strobe.  When hidden it "almost" like its not there  :dunno:.  I dont suspect I'll need to signal so the SOS mode is not thought of as such.  Just another blink mode to me.  I do like the strobe for exactly as mentioned above.  Crowded space and you are trying to get the attention of your party.  Daytime so the strobe can be used without wrecking the vision of those around you.  Think any outdoor space where folks gather.  You are on the phone telling them "I'm over here, no look the other way, no no look to your left, no YOUR left, ok I'm jumping up and down, oh forget it I'll walk to you"  :D
