Not that long anymore.
Waiting for the annual summer clearance sales to buy some layerable clothes...

Good thing you mentioned it.

A few weeks ago, soon to be mrs Mechy bought a jacket in clearance (reason mentioned was "colour discontinued").

It's very lightweight and was described on the tag as "breathable, windproof and rainproof up to 1h in intense rains".
She also got herself a pair of Lowa Renegade hiking boots.

I found an insulation lined softshell jacket in the same store and already had Lowa hiking boots.

Somehow I missed this topic completely .

Lowa boots are great, my favorite brand, along with Meindl (maybe I would put Meindl on top of the list, but only by a very small margin).

Either way, both are great  :tu:.

I had Meindl before and loved them.

I wore them down completely and they're still in a cupboard... Can't seem to throw them out. They got me through so much...

So, summer sales started. Off to a French sporting chain store!

I've been eyeing their website since last weekend and decided beforehand that zipperable trousers would be perfect for the unpredictable Nordic weather.

Tried a few on but they were all too tight or too loose in the wrong places or looked too "look at me pro backpacker for multi day hikes". Apart from that one model I noticed online... Discounted to a measly €25.

It showed only 2 in stock during the weekend, and still did today. Turns out the stock was actually correct!

So brought it home. I feel as if it's the perfect combo between: hiking, casual looking and comfort.

Thanks Gareth!

The same ones in Khaki were not in stock in my size.
Even though those aren't discounted,I might actually go pick them up at another store...

Small update, Khaki trousers were bought too and I wore them to get an overall idea of comfort, warmth, pocket sizes etc.

The smartphone pocket is great!! The zippers are barely visible and barely noticeable when wearing them too.

Overall I love these and I feel quite confident in the way they'll work out up north.

Would this store by any chance be Decathlon? (don't know for sure if this is a French store, but I thought it was).

Anyway, they have some good stuff at a great price.

In my experience their hiking trousers are not the same quality as the more expensive brands like Fjällräven or Lundhags, they tend to tear where they are stitched and the fabric is more fragile, for example, my daughter (3years old) is always climbing up my lap, and one time she rubbed with her hiking shoes against my Decathlon trousers and the fabric has noticeable damage from this. While I've slid down a couple of meters on rock and dirt (don't ask how or what) with my Fjällräven trousers and they show no damage at all.

But...

For the price of one pair of Fjällräven trousers you can get 4 or 5 of the other ones (Lundhags are even more pricey, but they are the most comfortable hiking trousers I've ever worn).

I try to find the Fjällräven trousers at the A.S. Store when they are on sale, I've bought a couple of them at - 70% discount, and ended up paying like 27 Euro/pièce. I even bought an insulated waterproof winter Fjällräven trouser there for 25€ (dump price) while they normally go for 220€.

But those "famous"brands are getting more expensive year after year.  The Fjällräven shorts I normally buy used to cost like 60€ a couple of years ago, now they cost 99,99€  :ahhh.

That's just crazy in my opinion, so I won't pay full retail price for them anymore.

I should loose some weight, since I've got quite a bit of them in great condition from when I was a bit thinner, like 5 years ago... But I love to eat  ::). Getting older s*cks .

Wow, look at me, rambling on about trousers .

Only noticed your post now TG!

Thanks for the insight.
I'll report on how they held out when I get back.
Admittedly, at those prices some Fjalrävens are the only right choice :D

And I was talking about Decathlon, yes.

I expect them to do just fine.

The stitching loosening up happened on two out of the three zip-off trousers I bought to use at work, but it only occured after I'd been using them for about 5 or 6 months.  So 3 trousers over a 6 months period equals, let's say an average of 2 months of use before they started to develop this problem.  And this is dailly and intensive use, since I walk an average of 20km each day at work, mostly pulling or pushing something along.  And they get washed a lot, since I work in a hospital and some of the things I come in contact with are just, well ... gross.  And our clothing needs to be in pristine condition every day.

Anyway, have fun mate (and some scenery pics, with or without a SAK, are always appreciated  :pok:).
