My first Leather Sheaths
on: January 25, 2019, 04:16:53 PM
Been getting into working with leather lately and so i started making some sheaths for my SAK's. I do not like to carry too much stuff in my pocket, so a sheath comes in handy.
Not completely perfect craftsmanship yet, but i am learning and getting better:

The top one holds my Alox Cadet, the lower one holds a huntsman or an explorer.

:like:.  I like the fold over one a lot.  Is it for belt carry?  I found a small leather sheath with belt loop that I've been carrying my SI in.  It has a snap closure that I like.  Rides a little high but not bad at all.

Like the color of the leather you chose  :tu:

Pretty cool! That's how you learn, make one and see what works and what doesn't, make the next one better.

Thanks! Both are for belt carry. For the larger one i had planned for a horizontal and vertical carry. Unfortunately i did not leave enough slack in the piece that forms the belt sleeve, so the belt won't go through that way.
Now it's a vertical only sheath  Next time i know that i need to leave more space.

The leather is actually of the cheap kind, it has some blemishes and marks all over, but it was a good start for my first experiments in leather working. After the assembly i used water based dye to stain the leather to my liking.
