The Tool Box/Bag Thread

Neat idea for thread. 

I have several boxes, yet was able to access three just now for pictures.

A Kennedy machinists chest -
(Image removed from quote.) Presently used for bike cycle restoration and top side gathers what ever falls onto it until I get back to biking.

A Red Craftsman, (road in my work truck till I retired)(Image removed from quote.)sitting on a old Kennedy traditional. 

Under my work table is a Traditional Grey Craftsman, a wood square hip style box used for tube TV service. A Black attaché style tool grip.

At my Mom’s is my Dad’s Kennedy Hip box he used for his paint brushes after I modified the drawers. (At least 45 yrs old). When in college I worked for a SK, Proto, (tools), Kennedy box distributor. Plus Kennedy Mfg factory outlet store was down the road from me in Ohio.

I've been wanting a Kennedy really bad since I've started watching mrpete222. I can't find anything locally with a reasonable price or with the samll side by side drawers. I've never seen one with those kinds of pulls, if you get the chance please show the contents, nice chests by the way!!

I will take a picture after I convert my garage from winter duty to summer duty.

This one I found at a garage sale, paid about $80. The lady’s father was a machinist at a axle company. 

I have also, spotted a box or two at Pawn shops for more money, yet older models and smaller.

I really wanted my father-n-law’s set, a three tier combo on casters, but oldest sister-n-law gave away to her dad’s coworker who offered only about 25 cents on the dollar for all his tools and cabinets. Made me sick.  He had been a die and mold maker for almost 40 years.

#1 Craftsman tool box with tools circa 1940's or slightly earlier.
#2 Craftsman round top that looks like a mailbox. I have two different versions of this one.
#3 A hand made box made by the father of a good friend of mine.I lettered it to look like a box from his grandfather's sign company and gave it back to him.
#4 One of the weirdest looking boxes I have ever seen. Bought at a yard sale full of old Ford wrenches.

#1 & #2 A huge Philson tackle box.
#3 & #4 an unmakred tool box that automatically opens when you lift the handle.

#1 An old Craftsman machinists' box made by Kennedy.The difference between the Kennedy and the Craftsman is the positioning of the lock bars that engage when the top is closed.One is spaced closer together than the other. I found this out while trying to interchange the front covers.
#2 An old Kennedy machinists' box.
#3 A Kennedy carpenter's tool box.The widest one I've ever seen(32 inches).
#4 Another old Kennedy machinists' box.The real early boxes had non-removeable drawers. Later models could be removed by pushing aside the lock tabs on the slides.

Page six Two really small Kennedy boxes;only 13 inches wide. The second one has a bronze ID tag rather than the usual decal.Probably from the 1930's.It only has two trays while the later model has three.

#1 is a box full of Duro tools I bought for $10. Took two of us to lift it into the back of my car!
#2 is a box I bought from a friend.It belonged to his grandfather.Painted on the inside of the lid was the message:" Homeward bound! May 30th 1918". Headed home from the Great War!
#3 & #4 an old tool box that was given to me by someone I was painting a car for. No maker's name but I love the ghostly images of the tools in the drawer!

Tool pail/caddy made by me. Stainless TIG welded with dividers to keep my hand tools organized. Whipped the handle with paracord for a comfy grip. It is all stickered up now but is at work so no current pictures, just ones from when I built it. I used to use a steel pail I pimped out but the bottom was getting thin from sliding on concrete and it was getting pretty bashed.

I know what you mean about sliding on concrete.I had a great D-Flite sign painter's kit that I got as partial payment for teaching a seminar at an art school and the corners of the box(reinforcements actually riveted on)fell off after the rivets holding them on were ground away by sliding it across concrete floors.I finally started using a lighter box so I didn't have to slide it all the time.

Nice one! I know what you mean about sliding on concrete.I had a great D-Flite sign painter's kit that I got as partial payment for teaching a seminar at an art school and the corners of the box(reinforcements actually riveted on)fell off after the rivets holding them on were ground away by sliding it across concrete floors.I finally started using a lighter box so I didn't have to slide it all the time.

 I thought about welding some tabs to the bottom as sacrificial metal to the one I made. Just weld new ones on when they get thin to save the pail itself. But it is heavy enough already as I made it out of 18ga stainless. Lol.
