I actually like the inside lid cover as it refers to the knives inside. The rip is there but my eyes do go to the collection of knives. I didn’t realize the box is a pretty good size.  :like: :tu:

I was thinking it would look nice with the inside lid being covered
in the same colour felt that you used on the inside of your box  :tu:

I have considered that, but I like to keep it as authentic as possible.
That’s understandable  :tu: :like:

Today I made this black MDF panel that fits inside the ammo crate. The SAK display will be made on this panel. More on that later this week when I continue!

I've been continuing working on the display, in particular with the slots that will hold the alox Dutch army knives.

First thing to do was drilling some holes.

You'll notice that some holes are very shallow. That's because of the keyrings, for which I have to drill additional holes first.

After this i'm drilling the holes that will become the slots all the way through from the other side. In some tests I did before I started this I found out that drilling them through all the way from one side will result in parts of wood breaking off, like on the picture shown below in the spoiler tags.

With the holes finished i'm taking the project outdoors to do some work with the router.

I'm planning to use 8mm of felt under the SAKs in the display, so I need to remove some wood to create a sort of slit that will hold the felt.

I created a rail to guide the router, and secured the SAK slots with screws so it won't move while I pull the router towards me.

Next thing to do is use the router to create some cuts for the bails of the KL83, KL85 and KL86 (the rest have keyrings).

I made a frame for this to make sure every cut is straight and of the same length.

To be continued in the next post.

The work in the previous two posts resulted in these finished SAK slots.

Used the miter saw to cut them in exactly the right length for the display.

And this is how it is going to look on the display panel:

Before i'm going to attach them to the panel I will first finish the rest of the slots, that will hold the 108mm collection. Hopefully I can find some time for that next week.

To be continued!  :salute:

Today i've been busy again with the ammo crate display!

With the SAK slots finished today it was time to attach them to the base plate of the display.

First thing to do was aligning them and drilling some holes in the base plate. By the time I realised I wanted to take some pictures of the work in progress I already attached the first row, so in the pictures you'll see me attachine the second row.

Using some F clamps to hold it in place...

Then turning it upside down...

Making sure I won't drill too deep...

Drilling the middle hole...

Using an old fashioned manual screwdriver to make sure I don't overtighten it...

After tightening the middle screw I did the other ones, and ended up with a neatly secured set of SAK slots.

Time to cut the felt.

And the Dutch Army Knife part of the display is finished!  :ahhh

The rest of the display will be used to display the 108mm collection. So next thing to do is make the slots for those!  8)
