Someone bought me a Tool T-Shirt years ago. I wore it a couple of times until it dawned on me I was literally advertising that I was a tool. I'm sure they did that on purpose.

The chance of an outstanding comeback album are slight, historically these things are disappointing.  :dunno:

I truly hope I'm wrong, but the 'old' stuff is still fantastic, and would be hard to top.  :dunno:

Tool's music has never been available for streaming because of some anti-capitalist political BS that Maynard and crew profess to believe in, or some perceived artisitic dilution it would cause to have the songs available piecemeal instaead of some 'whole album experience' BS. It's really bizarre given the talent level of these guys. :dunno:

I just want it on my phone.  :D

As you say my brother, given the level of their talent (IMO on another frickin' planet from their closest rivals) they can do just what they want however they want.

I don't believe for a moment that any output from them is going to disappoint. Even after 13 years wait. They are the sound the universe makes when you get close enough  to listen. :D

I'll be listening, I hope you're right. Even if it's not the caliber of their previous stuff it will be miles ahead of most of what's being produced.  :tu:

I just wish I could listen to them on an impromptu hike when I only have my phone for entertainment!  :bnghd:

Do you own any of their albums on CD? They're one of the few bands to still have amazing artwork etc on their CD's.

Isn't there a CD size slot to pop them in?  :D

Here on the U Boat we're big fans of the Soviet made 'универсальный музыкальный плеер телефон' which has slots for 7 and 12 inch vinyl, cassettes and CD's - all on one handy sized (2ft by 2ft by 8 inches) pocket phone. It has a built in 23 Mb of memory!

Message from Maynard........

Well now I've got some advice for you, little Twiglet.
Before you point the finger you should know that I'm the man,
And if I'm the man, then you're the man, and he's the man as well
So you can point your fudgin' finger up your doodar.

:D

OK, after an entire morning listening to this one track:

It's a blinder, even for Tool. Danny Carey's playing is astonishing - would love to see him play this live with just the two arms and legs he was given  :D though he may have some help from 'beyond'  :ahhh I'm looking at you Cthulhu, you multi dimensional multi-limbed demon.

Maynard brings in some of his style from APC and Puscifer for a bit of evolution  to their sound, and lyrically I guess the song is an incantation or a spell to dispel fear.

Musically the song is deeply rooted in the last 3 albums with all the elements that make up the Tool sound - complex rhythms, interlocking bass and guitar parts and esoteric lyrics. So no surprises...............................................Except, it's a new Tool song after 13 years. And it was worth the wait.
