Spring assisted pliers
on: February 15, 2019, 10:05:53 PM
Excuse me if this has been asked a million times before.   I don't have much experience with the multi tools, although I do carry a Leatherman Wave every day at work.  It doesn't get alot of use since I'm usually within reach of my toolbox.

When I do use it it's primarily the pliers that get used.  The problem is that when using only 1 hand to open the pliers, the handles move but the jaws don't open.  That kind of makes them a pain to use.

Could anyone recommend another full size multi that with pliers jaws that are spring assisted to stay open.  Thank you.

I know the Gerber Suspension and it's variants are spring assisted.
The quality is nowhere near the Wave though...

If the handles are closing when the jaws are not moving(when trying to use pliers), it needs to go back to Leatherman for repair. The Wave pliers are supposed to snap in place. Not spring loaded, but should not be a pain to use. :tu:

What GLBM said. There could be something broken. Sprung pliers may or may not be beneficial in all applications. There will be down side to those pliers too.

Leatherman OHT is a good option if you are looking for a full-size Multitool with sprung pliers.  :tu:

In knife-based tools, such as GAK with pliers, Walther MultiTac, and, I suppose, large SAKs, the pliers are deployed open and are spring-loaded. The pliers themselves are not as good as LM, and the ergonomics may vary from acceptable to outright awful.
