Tell me about these scales please...
on: February 04, 2019, 01:56:09 AM
Hey folks.  I was looking for a replacement SAK for one of my emergency kits.  I used to keep a Huntsman in there but decided to switch over to a Fieldmaster in favor of the Philip's driver.

Anyway this is the one I settled on.  Can anyone tell me what these scales are?  I swear I've seen that axe/log image on a SAK before but cant remember where.  Thanks!

(These are the sellers pics, not mine)

Yes, they are Boy Scout wood chopping badge scales.  I recognize it because I'm looking for those same scales, but on a 58mm Vagabond.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Thank you sir! Hopefully I can polish them up a bit as I quite like that emblem.  Good luck with your search!

Its the BSA Wood Badge emblem, from the adult leadership program.  https://scoutingmagazine.org/2014/02/wood-badge/

It's been a few years, but I saw one of these in the local BoyScout shop.  I don't know if they'll sell to anyone or if you need the proper credentials.

My new Fieldmaster arrived today.  The good news is that, while it was listed as used, the tools themselves appear to have seen little if any use.  The bad news is the scales are in bad shape. Almost looks like someone was using them to pop bottle tops.  The listing noted that they had scuffs/nicks/scrapes or something to that effect but failed to mention that one of them (of course the one with the axe emblem) had a crack in the end of it.  And a small chunk of it promptly broke off while I was trying to see how bad the crack was.  Little bummed.   :(

At least the tools are in good shape....
