#1Quick-Blade folding knife.Notch on bottom of blade is for cutting tape.
#2 Red Devil Jak Nife Can be used as a knife or a scraper and folds up for safety.
#3 A couple of early cast iron Stanley knives(model 1299)
#4 A Uni-Tool multiblade knife.

   As with most types of edged tools,the lowly box cutter has also come into my accumulation in many designs.Some are designed for multiple uses such as scraping. It wasn't until many years after I started using a standard box cutter did I realize that in most of them you can take out the blade and turn it 90 degrees to use as a scraper.
   The only down side I see to replaceable blade utility knives is that most of them use blades that will only fit that particular knife.Many of the early ones used single edge razor blades of the standard type. There were also many types of single edge razor blades when safety razors started to replace straight razors but that is another story......
   So without further ado I will post up a few of mine and try to give info about them.

#1 Armstrong Notched Blade Knife.Cast iron housing.Still looking for extra blades.
#2 Box cutter promotional item from Swift's Cleansers.Uses a single edge razor blade.
#3 Conrad box cutter uses a single edge razor blade.Has a ruler built in to the top edge.
#4 A modern Craftsman folding utility knife with wood handles and highly polished with removeable blade guard.

Ray, I was a flooring installer for 33 years. The Armstrong knife you have has been replaced by a plastic angled model. At one time they made an angled straight blade for it that ship has sailed. If I remember right the notched blades for the new knife fit yours. When pattern cutting sheet vinyl flooring you cut halfway through the flooring and undercut the backing with a notched knife like yours. Mostly used with inlayed hard goods but can be used with any vinyl flooring. Most wholesale flooring supplys should stock Armstrong blades.

I've got a Gerber EAB which I never use....just had my name on it 

I use the old standard Stanley model, one fixed and one with the retractable blade.  The latter is a pain, I always seem to disengage the lock during hard use.....


Something else.......if you have a polisher you can strop the blades back to sharper than new in a few seconds.

Only a few here.

Cheapo plastic Stanley (model not known). Good for light work and quick blade changes.

Stanley 99E. Will easily outlive me. Good solid beast of a knife. Slow on blade changes though.

Forge steel auto-retract (pain in the arse to use for anything other than single cuts). No additional tools needed to open it, which is good. Solid enough to survive being thrown across the room, if you lose your rag over the auto-retract feature. Launch durability tested many times.

And then both the EAB and EAB Lite. Sadly the concave and convex blades need modding slightly to fit. Not a long job though, if you've got some kind of powered grinder.

I bought a Gerber folding utility knife from Amazon just got it today feels real good in my hand. Walmart sell them with orange handles for under eight dollars when you can find them in stock.

I appreciate having a box cutter at hand, or any kind of cheap and easily replaceable blade on me, including utility knives and scalpels!

Can you compare the EAB and EAB lite in terms of ergos? I've seen tons of reviews. Now I know that I need one. But the thing is that I like the liiks of the plane jane EAB  more. But at the same time EAB lite is an improved version and should be better.  Just don't like that coffin shape

Tricky one to answer, as the ergonomics in my hands, will be different to yours, so take my reply with a large pinch of salt. 

To be honest, if held as you might expect to with a normal grip (pics 1&2), neither are very comfortable in my hands, particularly on heavy cutting. I tend to use them for lighter tasks than I would with the big Stanley, and hold them by pinching the side (pics 3&4). Both knives feel near enough the same that way, ergonomically speaking, or neither feels particularly better/worse than the other. Fine for cutting through leather, but if you're cutting through carpet, get a Stanley

I have the lite only because that's what the local Lowes sells. I didn't think there would be much difference between the regular and lite, except looks.
They are handy for sure.

I will, probably, get both and make up my mind. I'm just tired of sharpening my working knife (Para2). Its not the knife that's bad. I just often have to use my knife for a non knife tasks. So its kinda a lil stupid abusing a good knife.
