Sharpening blade serpette Harvester ??

A small question can be silly ...... How do you sharpen the serpette blade of your Harvester ??

That particular type of blade can be quite difficult to sharpen. I buy a lot of pruning knives; or "hawkbills" as they are called in my part of the country, many of them in quite poor condition.   I touch them up with a round ceramic rod; and if the edge is in really poor condition, a tapered diamond coated sharpening rod.

And be careful with the tip. Too much pressure or running the stone past it, and you'll round it out quickly.

With a standard spear point blade, I hold the sharpening rod still, and move the blade across it, as if sharpening a pencil. With the hawkbill pruner blade, I hold the blade still, and run the sharpening rod down the blade, towards the edge. I find it more controlled that way. I also sharpen the straight section first, then do the curve afterwards.

And if you don't own a round rod you can wrap a dowel in wet an dry, emery cloth, sand paper etc  ;)
