Day 1

Chip Chop No1 reporting for duty :salute:

Thank you to Sparky415's generosity, this will always remain one of my favorite tools and always put a smile on my whenever I see it.  It's been a while since the last use, thinking I should sharpen it a bit to make it shaving sharp.  Not entirely sure it was a little bit of surface rust, maybe I should clean it up a bit with really fine steel wool...

Looks great! Does the double bit has different angle?  It kinda remind me of Nessmuk's setup when I see your axe with the slipjoint.  :like:

Yes, 25 degresson one side and 32 degress on the other.

Fuzzaxe Day 1

Excellent start fellas - this really is going to be an interesting and highly enjoyable challenge... It's going to be great!  :2tu:

Fuzzaxe is rather inconveniently 600-odd miles away and I can't get to him until the start of next week. So as a stopgap, I've dug out my Bahco hatchet, one of two that I have, but this one lives with me down south (the other up north).

It's an excellent cheap-ish very German looking small axe and all round good choppa... my only criticism is that the steel's a bit soft. As you can see, it could do with a bit of a clean and touch-up on the edge there... Someone must have put it away without making good...

For the purposes of this challenge, I shall name him Fakaxe!

(Image removed from quote.)

Yea, good substitute.    :like:

After the dryness of last summer, I have had several eucalyptus trees die on me. This one is close to the fence so thought I'd kick off the challenge with a bang and take it down, with Bruce, of possible. I used him to lop off the branch on the left, then proceeded to make a face cut. Bruce is very easy to swing with his long handle and light head, but is very jarring in this hard dry wood. Once I got to this point, and despite Bruce cutting well, I didn't think id be able to fell it before dark, so I grabbed the Hickory handled 4.5lb Hytest and finished it off. Bruce watch on from the fence and will come back into force limbing the tree. Despite the amount of chopping Bruce has done in hard dry wood, I haven't sharpened him since stubbing his toe those months back

Day 1

Starting out with the Vaughan. It fits in the back pocket so I can pack it around without much trouble.

Oh, yes!   :like:

We are off to an excellent start.  :tu:

RF52, I'm very excited to see what you do with that hatchet!   :ahhh  It's always great to see an old tool restored and made useful again.   :tu:

Nice pocket axe, David!

I'm diggin' the Tomahawk photos, too. It'll be interesting to see how they do as tools this month.

Tazzie -- nice work with Bruce!  :tu:

Day: 01

No uses for me today. I did get Lyndax's handle finished up and honed the edge. I was impressed that right out of the box, Lyndax had a nice edge. Now she has a really nice edge.  :D

And I need to make a mask for it. Hard to carry around a razor sharp axe without a sheath or mask.

(I'm feeling a little behind here!)

Thanks, TR.  The handle is 19" long. No particular reason, it just sort of "felt right". I wanted a handle short enough to be carried in a pack, but long enough to be used with two hands. This seems a fairly good length.  :dunno:
