Day 4:

Still no use
But I did get some progress on the Øyo heirloom hatchet :tu
Removed the old worn out handle, scraped of the paint stains, scotchbrite pad helped remove the worst rust spots without ruining the decades old patina

The small knife is one I put together and shaped the handle of in about 15-20 minutes, not counting epoxy curing time.

You should be used to carrying the
axe by the end of the challenge styx  :D

Nice pic Borg  :like: :tu:

since i'm in an urban environment it is a tad problematic
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Thanks Speedy  didn't need that much work actually :like:

Btw, should I finish the handle with linseed oil, danish oil or a teak wood oil sort of thingy? That's the options I have :tu:

Day: 04

Spent most of the day at the shooting range. Not much use for an axe there. Chili for dinner, and Lyndax diced chopped up some cheese to serve as a topping.....

Given the wedge-like shape of the edge, the cheese got 'split' more than sliced. But that'll work, too!  :tu:

Day 3- Only use today was gratuitous- opening my banana first thing this morning. Mini Bruks traveled by car with me all over the place today, but no pic or other use. Archery season for deer opens here tomorrow, so maybe some outdoor use. Fingers crossed.  :) I'm enjoying seeing the leatherwork and restoration on sone of the beauties here! Keep it coming!

Day 5

Needed some paper to write on, and used the Chip Chop to cut chop up some paper.  I find it pretty amusing to constantly reach for an axe for everything, when I am usually surrounded by knives and other tools.

I don't have enough experience to comment on that except linseed oil worked for me, but I had been having a blast with Obenauf's, for everything from leather to wood handle.  Love that stuff, easy to apply and multi usage.

:D  But wouldn't that be funny to put on googles for cheese chopping?  Funnier if she does wear her own respirator...

I thought about the edge, geometry and construction of different axes when I was sharpening mine on a worksharp(the belt attachment is a God send, though probably no comparison to a real belt grinder).  Traditionally, we see many axes come with convex grind, but some modern axe, like the Gerber/Fiskars, would do really well with a simple straight wedge shape and are very forgiving with almost unbreakable handle.

Maybe modern tech is changing how we look at the relationship between those edge/geometry/construction?  I know with all the 'super' steel, we can now afford to have super thin slicer knife, while not to worry about it chipping/rolling too easy.

Day 5

After driving over 200km to unload some shed stuff from my other house, a quick split was attempted. I'll have to try on a straighter, more seasoned piece because this bit was a Smurf. Then back in the car for the 200km return trip
