Errr...just some rabbit toy we got locally that loosely resemble Mitty the rabbit I think?

Little guy is at that stage where he puts everything in his mouth...just glad Mrs did catch me posing the axe next to the toy, cuz the little guy will munch on it like the rabbit.

Haha ok, seen them before and wondered if they were something famous  :tu:

Day 18:
Found a handle that fits pretty good with the lenght of the eye, but a bit slim on the sides. Maybe it will fill out when I slam the wedge in there? Or should I remove the head and try to give it a more fitting shape?

I'm with Nix, it does look a bit slack, it's possible that the wedge will split the handle below the kerf when it's battered in, try bringing the head down the haft a bit till you get a nice snug fit, hopefully you have enough room and it's got enough taper  :tu:

Fuzzaxe Day 18

Not much happening today. However, these saddler's rivets arrived in the post - I might use them to make a mask for Fuzzaxe...

Day: 18

A cool and breezy day today, but I took the opportunity to get out for a nice hike. Haven't been out for a good hike in a couple weeks--it was great to get out!

I was using a small daypack, a bit small for leggy Lyndax. So her head went into the bag (with mask), and haft went into an outside pocket.

This worked quite nicely.

Since it was a cool day, I brought along my little wood-fired stove and some tea fixings.

It's been raining (and snowing) on and off for a few days, and much of the wood on the ground was damp. Lyndax got used to collect some dry wood from dead branches sticking up in the air.

To make some tinder and kindling, I sank Lyndax's toe in a downed log, then pulled bits of split wood down along the edge to generate fine curls and shavings.

This worked really well. Forgot my bandana, so collected shaving and kindling in my hat......

When I had collected enough, I loaded the stove up, set it up in the lee of a rock outcropping, and used the ferro rod in the above photo to spark up a fire. Lyndax is mostly curvy and smooth, so I had to use her primary edge to spark the ferro rod. Worked like a champ, but did roll a slight burr. I hate to use my primary tool's working edge to spark a fire, but it was an emergency (well, it was lunch time any way.).

It was a fantastic day to sit outside, admire the view, sip hot tea and eat a bit of trail mix. I brought along some of these Copper Cow Creamer packets.

stock product photo, but you get the idea

These things are outstanding and definitely worth their weight. They are made in California, so they must not cause cancer. Makes delicious campfire tea.

My target for the hike was to climb this hill (they call it a 'mountain', but if you've been to Colorado you know it's a 'hill'.).

Energized with hot tea and lunch, it seemed like an easy hike.

Then I noticed this coming up behind me......

Sure enough, as I got to the summit I got caught in a proper snow squall. I was warm enough that my jacket was in my pack and I was just in a t-shirt and hiking pants (trousers in the UK, I suppose). With the wind and snow, I quickly became cold and started to move a bit more quickly to warm up!  The squall was brief; I think it got hung up on the west side of the mountain hill. I snuck down the east under mostly blue skies.

Great hike and Lyndax was a champion companion, performing very well. A bit heavier than a large knife, but she may have offered a bit of an advantage in the wood-collection job.  :tu:

The axe head has the largest eye I have ever seen, and that was the largest handle I could find localy so I'll take the advise of you wiser axemen and give it a try shaping it, but first I need to get the head off the handle

And it appears to have been used as a sledgehammer so it is a bit deformed in one place, hopefully it wont matter to much.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the axe multi-tool.
This particular example is the Stanley version although they are made in a ton of different labels add configurations. In truth I've never seen one actually sharp enough to call an axe or even to cut for that matter. Usually these are chunky and dull along the lines of crate openers; I have a feeling that's more they intended use.
The handle packs a saw, file w/ flat tip screwdriver, small Phillips w/ bottle opener, and a knife that is questionable at best. The whole thing is made out of 'high-grade' mystery steel, with plastic handle scales.

So now the question is what use is it? what have I been able to accomplish with it?
I have used this thing a few times usually in its function as a crate opener. That flat hammerhead is perfect for driving small tacks. The chunky thick dull axe blade is actually handy as a wedge when you need something thicker than a molding bar but smaller than a full size crowbar.
