honestly I'd really like to try this challenge. only question is timing, or when it would be

Current list of Axemen:

1. Nix (hasn't decide which axe...)
2. Rapid Ray (needs a vacation axe)
3. RF52 (hasn't committed to the challenge, but will in a couple of days)
4. Borg (planning on a smallish axe)
5. Styx (most likely, if things haven't gone full-on 'berserker', and even then, perhaps.)
6. Greg 'Chopper' Jones (with a couple axes and a positive attitude.)
7. KBM3 (with an axe to be named later...)
Starting to look good, see no worries!  :tu:

So, I am already super pumped for this challenge and figured I would share a great video about a cheap and reliable sharpening stone for our axes.  I have always had a fascination with whetstones but have never had one.  This upcoming challenge is just the thing to inspire me to order one so that I can check it out.

Ken, I am also really excited for this challenge. There are a few other challenges between now and the axe challenge, but the axe challenge is the one that has me fired up at the moment.

I think....and nobody hold me to this...that I'm going to go with this axe for the challenge:

It is a Wetterlings Hunter's axe. It is essentially a large hatchet. The poll is rounded off. I think that was originally done so the poll could be used to help separate a game animal's hide from the carcass. This one looks like it could use a bit of cleaning up now......

My grandfather taught me to sharpen an axe with a mill file and a puck like the one in the photo above. I'm curious about how you puck works. I'd be interested in upgrading mine, if yours works well.

I also have taken to using bench stones and sandpaper to get a really sharp edge on my axes. For the challenge, I'm going to try to keep the axe razor sharp in order to maximize it's all-around versatility.  :tu:

Nice pieces guys, I'm looking forward to this one too, I thought the Schrade Tough Tool would be my last Challenge, and then Nix comes up with this one, and it's different enough I have to participate,. I'll be using a run of the mill Estwing hatchet that my wife gave me a few years ago, but has seen limited use until now

Sweet hatchet, Greg.   :tu:

I like that leather handle.

I keep an Estwing in the back of the truck for car-camping or the unexpected. Mine has the blue rubberized handle....  :-\

Thanks Nix

I'm not sure which handle I would have chosen myself, like I mentioned this was a surprise gift from my wife with no input from me, so it was the perfect choice

A nice choice...and we won’t hold you to it.  :tu:
I saw that puck and was thinking that’s a odd colored clay for skeet and trap

A triple bonus for you...1 experience and usage...2 a badge at the end...and number 3 your wife is going to be happy - a win win for sure!
I was talking with my son and he has suggested just a hatchet style would be all thats needed here in Florida. May go just a little bit bigger  :tu:
