Uh, yes. Exactly.I would have posted that if I noticed this thread sooner
By the way, the swiss made stamp can be there. But only barely visible when opening the blade about 90 degrees. It would be on the tang as usual but hiddin behind liners and the glassbreaker. Please do check!
Great refference and comparison shots Lisa! Might help others out there
Great information there! And nice score!

Update. This review helped me understand just now that mine is real:https://www.swissarmyknights.com/articles/2008/86-november-2008/491-fake-rescue-comparisonApparently the thumb hole is evolving and earlier ones were oval shaped, plus the Swiss Made stamp wasn't on those earlier ones at the left side of the thumb hole.

I have 4 older ones with the oval thumb hole. Mine all have the Swiss Made stamp to the left of the thumb hole if you are looking at it in the closed position..Here are 2 pictures of one of them
Mine is an older model. I bought 4 of them shortly after they first came out.If you type Victorinox Rescue Tool Test Report by James E. Triplett in the search window you will see 3 reviews Initial Report - December 19, 2008Field Report - April 24, 2009Long Term Report - June 9, 2009 and if you look at the pictures of the Rescue Tool reviewed it has the same oval thumbhole that mine has.
Yours does look like that one in his early reports.I'm sure perplexed. Here are our thumb holes side by side:I wonder if mine is earlier. Then they made the hole a little less elongated and put the stamp on. Thoughts?
Probably. Also notice that the new Soldier model came out in 2008, which shares it's blade design with the Rescue Tool.So I'd guess they revised the blade in 2008 (end 2007) to be used with the Soldiers. It makes sense that they'd use remaining stocks for the Rescue Tool, since the Soldier was not meant to receive that design of blade.
Here’s some interesting articles...Based on the readings, I assume that the elyptical tumbhole was made between 2003-2007...In fact, I’ve only ever seen 2 types of OHO thumb holes... the elyptical one with the usual tang stamp... and the more rounded one with Victorinox Swiss Made to the left of thumbhole...
Good work gentlemen!I now think mine was one of the earliest versions, then Vicman's are some of the very first with the new design.
It's there! There's some oil there that is making it hard to read.(Image removed from quote.)
